For Father's Day, we went out to dinner and to a 6pm movie (Batman Begins -- this with 3 grown children :D ). When we left the theater at 9pm it was just sunset (long days in summer in the Northwest) The most amazing phenomena....western light eeking out from beneath massive black rainclouds, turning them neon peach and then enough strong setting sunlight to create a full double rainbow with massive lightning strikes everywhere. Having come from such a dark movie, the drive home was just surreal. Makes you want to keep a digital camera in your car!! These local photos just can't capture the light or the hugeness of the sensation, but it's all I've found so far. :) Marguerite

PORTLAND, Ore. - An eerie orange sky, booming thunder, lots of lightning and pelting rain accompanied a powerful thunderstorm as it moved through the Portland metro area Sunday evening.

The storm was powerful enough that the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning around 5:30 p.m. The warning was rescinded shortly after 8 p.m.
Oblique light from the setting sun mixed with brooding clouds to create a palette of colors ranging from a deep orange, to pink, purple and red. Dark, almost black clouds provided contrast for the dramatic colors.

Rainbows mixed with lightning in an unusual display of nature's power and beauty.

WOW. I don't even like thunderstorms and I am impressed by the picture. Thanks for sharing.

Simply beautiful!

We're dealing with little, itty bitty, tee tiny earthquakes around here. Of course, the news guys keep reminding us that the largest earthquake recorded on the North American continent originated from this fault line.
At least I have my surgery over!
