This a.m. I presented for a comparison test with the lab draw. Big fuss because one of the reqs expired on Aug. 3--they weren't going to send their results to two doctors. That was straightened out--all was well.
I did my XS test while waiting in the treatment room. Tech took the vein draw and because this was a comparison test hers should be done fairly soon. Then I learned sample was being sent to lab about an hour away later on this p.m. and we'd get the results in "a day or two".
My XS is always within .2 of the lab, now I don't know what to think except it's a waste of time, effort and gas to wait two days. Small-town hospital prefers to send tests out.
One step forward and two steps back. No smiley for growling:p

My local hospital will do vein draws with very fast results, but my local lab used to send the blood far away to Ottawa by courrier.
I didn't like that, and it was causing tension between me and my doctor, so that's when I bought my monitor and no, I don't do any comparison tests.

I don't understand the continual insistence that a home testing machine must be compared to a lab draw - especially under the circumstances you describe. You should have just asked to test one of the lab techs that's not on Coumadin. :D That would have been a better test!

I have never done comparisons, except when I felt like it!

One of these days, I must tell you all about my recent arm surgery, my ortho surgeon's excellent treatment of me, my valve and my INR, heparin injections (down Ross) and new INR management nurse.

Opinions may vary; trust your monitor.

Hellow Philip
Yes, I absolutely do trust my XS. Roche recommends every 6 months and my PCP and warfarin manager go along with. As with to-day's experience I'm done with them.:D

Based upon my experience with hospital labs, even if they do the lab work right away there's often variability with lab results.

Ha ha ha. Test the Tech:eek: I love it. Had I asked I would have been thrown out on the street.

Lab test results received ...............

Lab test results received ...............

late this p.m. No so very bad. Monitor 3.6, lab 3.3. This .3 difference is the biggest difference so far. So maybe situation not as bad as I first thought.

uhmm
I had the same results last week. A 0.3 difference between the monitor and the lab, first time for me too and I get the results within 3 hours of the lab testing.

Thanks all ........................
