When Mary left vr we lost one who was faithful in starting “surgery well wish threads” well in advance of the surgery date ... I think she also put people on the calendar, not sure about that ... I looked at the calendar and there seems to be nothing but birthdays which are automatic if the member shares their date of birth, no, I did see one on the calendar next month, I think...

It would be a shame if this ball was dropped ... I will help when I can but maybe we have a few more or someone who is retired that has “tons O time” ;)that can help or take it over.....

Cooker, I'm happy to help put people on the calendar. Just pm me and let me know exactly what part of it you want me to do, and I'll do it.

Mary left last week, she needs a break ... as far as the surgery calendar goes I can not commit to handling the entire thing ... I don’t have time to read every post and you really need to have a keen eye to catch every surgery

It might be nice if people would put their dates on the calendar and we could start the “well wish threads” ... we will figure something out....

When I joined, I did not know any of the strategies, I went to the calendar and put my own date. I felt bad afterwards that I may have stepped over someone else!! So, it can be done. Until then, I too offer my help with Kim and Norma so far and will put dates I catch on the calendar.

Hope Mary's break won't be for long.

Mary has been a very vital part of VR since the first day she stepped on board (years ago). We all miss her, but know she isn't very far. Maybe one day......

She accepted the job of notifying everyone about upcoming surgeries and even reminded some of us via pm if we had been off the site for a little while (like me) so that we would be able to come in to let the members know we were thinking of them while they went up the mountain. Thank you, Mary. You are always a blessin to us.

And so, yes, someone needs to take that on as a full time. I see those above are dedicated members and always here. Step right up..... and take it on if you feel you would like to. Just let Ross know.

Blessins.........

I also put David's surgery date on the calendar myself. I had just joined the group and thought that was what you were supposed to do. Then his surgery date changed (which I had posted in a thread) and Mary put his new date on the calendar and posted that I needed to remove the old date because she couldn't (since I had posted it). I removed the old date but by mistake Mary had posted the new date as my surgery instead of David's and I wasn't able to change it. So I just put it on the calendar again myself as David's surgery and asked Mary to remove the incorrect one, but it sat there for several days as she must have been busy. So I think it is really best if the person themself puts the date on the calendar in case there are any changes that needs to be made. Maybe there can be a sticky in the Pre-Surgery forum asking people to put their surgery on the calendar so we can all keep them in our prayers on that day. I do appreciate those who have volunteered to help but I thought I'd relate my experience with having someone else post the date and make a suggestion (the sticky) that might make it a little easier for everyone. Just my opinion:).

Personally, I think it would be great if newbies put up their own dates.

I think that asking even a retired person to take it on is a bit much. I mean, retired people are often busier than working people!!

Why don't we just post a stickie that give people instructions as to how to post their dates on the calendar and have that be part of the registration or welcome. Obviously, many here have chosen to make that effort and it's worked great!!

Birthdays are also very time consuming to post. Some birthdays are two or more people on the same day. Some may be someone you know really well along with someone who rarely comes on or whom you don't know. Maybe I'm a grinch, but I don't really see them as a necessary part of the forum.

Maybe the effort should just phase out with Mary. We don't want to burn anyone else out!!!!!:eek: Just some thoughts.

Well, I already started doing what I can to catch pre-surgery dates & I just checked the calendar to see if anyone has a BD today & there was nothing listed.

I still think it's nice to send someone a Happy Birthday greeting, even though they may not be around much. To me, if they they listed their BD on their profile, a little recognition gives everyone a warm feeling. :)

So, I'll do what I can, because Mary left some pretty big shoes to fill! :)

Well, that's wonderful! No "missed beats" in this domain! :D Just thought I'd play devil's advocate to see how people felt.

Thank you, Norma, for your willingness and time.

you will fill them well. thanks - but anyone who wants to can also check, in my opinion. Or put it in themselves; tho sometimes newbies might not know just how or that they should. We have a good team here to step in to keep things up.

I agree on the birthdays, too. Don't know if Mary was also doing that, tho. Don't know who is.....
