Who paid for your INR home test machine?

I thought it would be useful for those conisdering home testing to see what the likelyhood may be for insurance coverage.

I voted that my provider paid 100%, because they did for my 1st machine. I'm in the process of getting a new one and my insurance will pay 90%.

I had no problems with the initial purchase as I did not have a deductible on the policy at that time. Now there is a deductible and my test strips fall under that. Since I don't usually have much expenses that apply to the deductible, I will be pretty much paying out of pocket for the strips. Just wanted to mention it as test strips can be a large expense.

I made a mistake as usual and marked I paid 100% when I meant to mark my insurance paid 100%

We paid 100%, but I think that might be misleading to this poll. We did this five years ago when there was only one distributor and only one machine available for home use. Medicare did not cover in home monitors as it does now. More and more conferences are featuring information on point-of-care monitors. In February of 2001, few people even knew about home testing in Arizona, with the exception of Christina in Tucson.

I wonder how many people have monitors because of Valvereplacement.com.

Nice poll. I will be interested in the results.

I voted for Nathan. Our insurance reimbursed 100% within a few weeks of purchase. Now test strips have been a completely difference matter. We have yet to be reimbursed after home monitoring for 5 months.

They Mayo Clinic gave us paperwork on home monitoring, but it was for the outdated Coagucheck. Shortly before it was taken off the market in the US, the Mayo Clinic Hospital had conducted a study on home INR monitoring, with 100 candidates, and they were all provided their own Coagucheck! Nathan missed the study by about 6 months, and I have never researched the study. I never would have been able to provide Nathan with the info about home monitoring or its products without this website.

Yes, tests strips out of pocket. Could never really understand the coverage of the unit and not the supplies. Been so long since I purchased my unit. Ins. paid a portion...but can't recall what?

My test strips are covered at 90% after deductible through Empire BC/BS. (With my Rx's I always reach that rather quickly.) They are considered DME (Durable Medical Equipment) and are covered just as diabetic testing supplies are covered.
