We are having a Texas blizzard. I tried to go out to take photos, but the wind is so fierce I gave up -- too hard to stand up!!!!!!! Some areas may get up to 6" of snow.

I worked until 1:30 p.m., then drove home. We delivered a breakfast casserole to our veterinarian 17 miles away, and we were glad to get back home. Saw a couple of cars skidding off the interstate into roped barriers on the shoulders. I had nightmares about having a car accident similar to the one 4 years ago that led to John's mitral valve repair.

We were to go to Dallas tonight for Christmas. Will try tomorrow. If not then, Christmas will wait. We have the farthest to drive to my parents' house, about 60 miles.

Those of you who regularly get lots of snow will probably chuckle at our "blizzard." If it weren't for the wind, it would be a cakewalk. And, yes, I've been in blizzards before -- in New England and Colorado. Not much fun driving on black ice.

Wow! Six inches of snow AND high winds will be problematic anywhere, but in an area where it's rare it certainly IS a big deal. Sounds like you're being smart. Stay safe and have a wonderful Christmas.

I lived in San Antonio for a couple of years. While we were there Dallas had snow & ice. It was horrible. It's bad enough when you're used to it, but when you're not it's simply treacherous. Stay safe!

I'm used to the snow & ice as long as I don't have to get out on it. Unlike a lot of businesses, newspapers don't give snow days and I've had to get out on ice, sleet, snow, etc., far too many times.

Heh ... our "White Christmas" came today (Saturday, 12/26/09).

We had a BIT of snow Christmas Day in the afternoon and evening hours ... after RAIN all day Christmas Eve.

But ... Saturday took the cake. The FORECAST (grumbles) was for ONLY 3" of snow. HA! Storm totals ... 14" just north of us in the Carpentersville area; Elgin reported nearly 11" of snow.... Luckily, I didn't have to go anywhere Saturday!

Marsha, sure glad we missed your Texas blizzard! :D
I remember those west Texas blizzards where I grew up near Lubbock. Some were almost as bad as the ones I've seen in South Dakota.

The was a our warmest Christmas! It was 85 degrees, we were on a Western Caribbean cruise. ;)

Looks like you had a WONDERFUL time!!!

Yes, Lubbock has horrible storms -- so can Amarillo.
