Today in the US through Dec 7th is the only time allowed to bet on best Medicare drug plan (D) needed for next year. Given echo showing severe calcification of CE bovine valve, an AVR redo is most likely I think sometime over the next year. I turned 65 this year and was on no prescription meds over the last decade with this valve so picked the cheapest Medicare D allowed for this year. Today I can select a different D drug plan but have no idea what medications or their expense I might need so have no information as a basis for selecting one of a huge number of plans. Advice from those who have gone through an AVR redo that may be a mechanical valve would be most helpful. What medications and their expense and duration are most likely? Is it just for a month or so then back to no prescription med so minimal coverage needed?

Mine is not a redo but I do have a mechanical valve and am on Medicare. Other than warfarin you may only be on a few post-op Rx meds for a fairly short time. I only take warfarin and a "baby asparin(81mg) for the valve maintenance and warfarin is very inexpensive. I have had a Medicare Advantage Plan thru Humana (Humana Gold Plan) that includes a drug benefit and my co-pay for warfarin is about $4/mo. I also take a couple meds for blood pressure and they are also about $4/mo. I could get all my meds thru mail-order for $0 copay, but I prefer to deal with a local pharmacy.
