Xavier

Hi everyone,

I have a congenital heart disease which could be described as a leaky aortic valve with on top of that a membrane. I am 36 and I will probably have to change it for a mecanical valve within the next 12 months or so. I have aleady made up my mind regarding the choice of valve (mecanical or bioprothesis valve) and I read a lot about blood thinners...
I have been living in Sydney for three years and I am interested in finding what hospital you would recommend for such operation. Being from France, I often go back there once a year and visit my cardiologist there but because I work in Australia i will have to get it done here.
I look forward to reading your comments about the procedures and your advice.
Regards,
xavier

Although I can't help you with hospital information, I did want to welcome you to VR.com. I hope things go well for you.

One of our members, aussigal, is currently considering a doctor and hospital in Sydney. I am sure you will hear from her and she can pass on that information.

Take care.

...unfortunately Professor Hughes has now retired..
but the team at SCTS all have vast experience.

Royal Prince Alfred Hospital is also probably your best bet ...most experience

Hi Xavier....these guys will be able to help...give them a call

i am from Perth but have the info on this beaut team in Sydney for you to go see...in-fact I am tossing-up whether to go there for my BAV and aneurysm repair surgery or stay in Perth for it...and its a tough choice

You however only have to approach the Sydney Cardio Thoracic Surgeon group

and they shall be pleased to see you...They would be one of the most highly regarded teams in australia...

I have been dealing with Dr Hendel.

Yes Gina!..I saw a call for Sydney help and came running...

Welcome, Xavier, to VR.com. I can't answer your question, either, but we do have members Down Under and I see our Aussie Girl has already been here to help you out. Just wanted to welcome you and invite your questions, if you have some others.
