Ok guys, so here I am again, on a 30 day dose of coumadin. With my last ablation, I was sent home on both coumadin and Luvenox until I got my INR up to between 2 and 3. I never really reached my target before quitting it in 3 weeks. They realized this time while I was hospitalized I had a reaction to the heparin and so sent me home on just coumadin. They started me on a slightly higher dose this time hoping to get me into range sooner since I can't take the shots.

So, I have now taken 3 doses (Fri, Sat, Sun) of 7.5 each and I tested today and am only at 1.4. I haven't heard back from the Dr. yet on what dosage they would like to change me to, but I'm curious what you guys would do in this situation.

Thanks,

Kim

Very good question and well worded Kim.

One thing to keep in mind it takes a good 3 to 4 days for your first dosage of warfarin to be in your system. So I'm thinking that your first dosage of 7.5mg is just starting to get into your blood stream.

Personally, I would continue with the same dose of 7.5 and wait until day 5 to retest. Any adjustments now may cause you to be to high and land you on a roller-coaster ride (been there all summer and its not fun).

Yeap, they're testing too soon. That 1.4 is likely the very first dose you took. They need to leave you on one set dose for a full week, then test.

Ok, well I just heard back from my cardio...he wants me to wait and come back to retest in 2 weeks! Am I being silly or does that seem too long? I told the nurse I would be back next Monday.
