My doctor would like to send me home with a home monitoring kit or at least get one in the works before I leave. They don't use them here at OHSU (Oregon Health Science Univ) so he doesn't really know which route to go. Any helpful titbits of information wopuld be of great help to me and him!! No more driving 1 hour each way with 3 little kids to get a PT draw!!!!!

Thank you all so much!

I just had my 3rd...final (fingers crossed) surgery Thursday the 12th and I have been in regular cardiac recovery since Friday morning (13th) everything went very well. Much better than we had planned! Hopefully my INR will be within range by Thursday so I can go home :)

My babies are waiting for me. I'm sooo sad I cannot pick them up for 6-8 weeks!!!!! UUUGGGhhhhhhhh

Thanks again
Katie

Hello,
The posts on this site confirm that most users of home monitors are very satisfied with their unit.

I'm very happy with my Coaguchek XS shown on Ross' link with two other brand names.

You'll have a tough decision to make deciding which one to use.

Katie:

As you can see in my sig line below, I started out with a ProTime 3 more than 4 years ago. Other than one repair while under warranty, I never had a problem with my ProTime 3.
I wanted a smaller, lighter machine so I got an INRatio two months ago. It has replaceable batteries, and I sprang for the wall charger.
I went with an INRatio because (1) I could get a $1,000 discount on that but not for the CoaguChek and (2) while the CoaguChek has a lengthy track record, it also has a record of several strip recalls.

Sometimes the insurance company decides which model you get. (If you insurance will cover it.) I have the INRatio and had the Protime 3. The pics in Ross's link make it look like all 3 machines are similar size. The ProTime is about double the size of the other 2.

I had the ProTime and was grateful to have it and home test. But the INRatio is wonderful. It's much much easier to test on. I hear the Coaguchek XS is similar to the INRatio.

God bless your doctor for wanting to send you home with a monitor. He is LIGHT YEARS ahead of many doctors and really must "get it" when it comes to the best possible option for your health and safety.

No Kidding

No Kidding

Yes, no kidding. I was never even told that they existed and it's a year from now where I'm just finding out. The doctor lottery. I doubt my lungs would have failed and made two month coma necessary if I'd had the right folks there. Not that I'm not grateful but another careless person almost killed me in the coma. Who is educating these people?
God Bless All,
Tony
