I would seriously like to know some of your "emergency/disaster/war/anarchy/Chicago Cubs win the world series/Mad Max" protocols on anticoagulant therapy.

I've been thinking about what I would do if we all had to go lock down mode for whatever reason.

-How much of a surplus of the drug should we keep on hand?
-What the hell to do about testing if you don't have system to check at home?
-What happens if you run out of drugs?
-What are the serious chances of having a thrombosis event with newer mechanical valves if you run out of drugs.

Obviously there would be many more lives in danger beside people on ACT. Many people would potentially die within days, weeks without proper management of any drug therapy they might be on. I apologize if something like this has already been posted.

There are a lot of smart and experienced people on here that I'm sure have some kind of game plan for stuff like this. Please enlighten me oh wise ones!

Good question, but "what if" questions are hard to answer. I keep a six month supply on hand. After nearly ten years, I know the ballpark to be in for a weekly dosage, although somebody does keep moving the out-of-bounds lines. On a lighter note, you can always use the mosquito test: Get bit by a mosquito, and watch it fly away; if you see it explode, you're too high; if you don't, you either alright or too low. I like that better than the old urination test.

 ROTFLMAO!!!

I have read Stephen King's "The Stand" & seen the mini-series several times, but seriously, I'm not worried about the need to stock up on rat poison and test strips to survive something like the event depicted in that book. (My favorite Stephen King novel)

I keep a 6-month supply of warfarin and order a box of 48 test strips, which lasts 1 year. When I travel, I carry an emergency supply of my meds (warfarin, antibiotics for cat bites, Tylenol, bandaids, etc.).

I would be far more concerned about getting my warfarin if something more "normal" hit, such as a tornado. And I would be able to get meds, since my RX is filled at Walmart and another Walmart would be able to access my RX records; I would be able to go to my PCP's or cardio's office for an INR test, pending replacement of my INRatio, etc.

These concerns aren't as high on my list as whether my central air will make it through this horrible summer.

Warfarin is derived from rotting sweet clover. Hang around a farm, if you see Bessie the cow belly up bleeding from every orifice, you should find your warfarin gold mine! That may get you through Armageddon, at least until you starve to death or are eaten by cannibals. Ha Ha. Actually, I never thought of your hypothesis. I'm with some of the other posters on this thread as I keep close to a 6 mth supply.
