Hi everybody,

Ever wondered why you have to have all your socks lined up in the drawer, get lost whenever you drive anywhere or burn everything you try to cook?
Try this BBC quiz, a simplified version of the Myers Briggs personality scale which has 12 different personality types:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/humanbody/mind/surveys/whatamilike/index.shtml

There was a programme on last night where they put 4 different types together - quite funny but spooky how true the psychologists' predictions were!

I'm a Nurturer: not sure I agree with the bit about work, but otherwise it's surprisingly accurate!

Summary of Nurturers
Care for the important people in their lives
Strive for harmony and avoid confrontation
Think of themselves as gentle, conscientious, and mature
May have trouble making decisions that could hurt others

More about Nurturers
Nurturers are quiet people who believe in order and diligently look after the people they care about. They focus on the needs of others and establish routines to help them meet their commitments.

Nurturers are the most likely group to say they prefer a job where the same thing happens every day, according to a UK survey.
Nurturers remember details that are important to them, such as their friends' birthdays and anniversaries. People with this personality type value others' feelings and may challenge behaviour they think is insensitive.

In situations where they can't use their talents or are unappreciated, Nurturers may feel bitter and seek support by complaining to their colleagues. Under extreme stress, Nurturers may become preoccupied with the worst possible outcome and believe that they are heading for disaster.

Because they are so caring and loyal, Nurturers run the risk of being taken advantage of.

Nurturer Careers
Nurturers are often drawn to jobs that allow them to help others.

Gemma,

I didn't need a test to tell me that you were a Nurturer! It shows in all of your posts. I'll take the test and tell you my results shortly.

Hm. A Realist

Hm. A Realist

Gemma,

That was fun. I'm a Realist and the bold comment about me was
"Realists are the most common personality type in the UK, according to a nationwide survey"

So, should I move to England to be surrounded by myself, or stay here and hope that whatever is most prevalent here is a good match?

I'm sure my husband will be the romantic, the idealist. (We're a great match!! I'd be lost without him) Thanks for the fun BBC site. Anything to get our minds off the horrible news today from Russia and the upcoming storm in Florida. (I could not continue to watch about the Russian children, I burst into tears. And this test says I think with my head, not my heart.........)

The program must have been really interesting -- and yes, psychologists can be frighteningly accurate, but not all the time. It is a field whose influence has made quite an impact -- you've only to turn on the TV ads to see how insidious and brazen marketing psychology has become. I hope that the clinical side of the field is at least as successful.

I truly found the site very expansive and interesting. Your BBC always seems heads above the rest!!

Thanks! Marguerite

Gemma,

Well, I am a Realist. Boring but dependable-

I'm supposed to be "Supervisor!" I think I'll toss that over to my husband over dinner tonight (I work for him :p )!

Did anyone else take the smile test, offered toward the bottom of the first test? I only got 13 correct out of 20, whether they were genuine or fake smiles.

Can you tell whether this one is genuine or fake? :D

It was genuine!

Over lunch I was telling my husband and son about the test and I told them that my personality came out as "supervisor." They were both howling. Between gasps for air and annoying laughter, they asked how so. I told them because I was organized and bossy. Then they believed it. What am I to make of that?!

My son suggested that my husband should take the test, as if he were me, and see if it comes out the same. Interesting idea; we do know each other that well...

Actually Susan, I did the second part of the test for Jim when he went out, then when he came back he did it himself (without me telling him what I'd put) - both of us came to the same conclusion - he's a Realist. And Bill - there's nothing boring about that ;) . I'd say he's in good company with you and Marguerite.
Ross - we all appreciate you - please don't get negatively critical or sarcastic!
I hadn't considered the UK factor - wonder if the US results would be similar if done nationally...
The worst possible outcome bit about nurturers - SO TRUE!!! Anyone remember what a mess I was the night/day before Jim's AVR? And of course it turned out fine. Think I'll have to remind myself of that next time I start thinking miserable thoughts :D .
Glad I could provide some light relief in what's been a day of devastating news re. the Russian schoolchildren.
Gemma.

I'm a counselor! What can I say, except "Tell me all about it."

Yeah, I could see that....

Strategists are the group most likely to say they are unhappy in their job, according to a UK survey.

That too...

Strategists are generally easy-going. They are intellectually curious and enjoy abstract ideas. Sometimes they like thinking of a solution to a problem more than taking practical steps to solve it.

In situations where they can't use their talents, are unappreciated, or not taken seriously, Strategists may become negatively critical or sarcastic. Under extreme stress, Strategists could be prone to inappropriate, tearful or angry outbursts.

Well, I dunno about the outbursts comment...

Strategists may be insensitive to the emotional needs of others or how their behaviour impacts the people around them.

That's not true at all... Not of me anyways.

Strategist Careers

Strategists are often drawn to technical or scientific careers, where specialist knowledge is required. They also seem to enjoy jobs that involve long-term planning, abstract thinking or design.

Ummm... I don't see anything in there about being a photographer....

Most of the time I try such tests (I've done several, just for fun) I've found they're only partially accurate.

Maybe I'm getting the answers wrong. :D

Well it would appear I'm a....

WHAT A SHAME MY "GET UP AND GO" GOT UP AND WENT...! Otherwise, it's probably a pretty fair assessment.
