My surgery is just 16 days' away so it's on my mind A LOT. Today I popped in to say hello to an American woman (from Kentucky) who's moved into our street a few doors down. I met her the other week when she was in the front yard with her daughter, who's 8yo, just like my girl.
I invited her down for a cuppa. We chatted away and talked about our kids' activities while the two girls played outside. I said my daughter wouldn't be doing swimming lessons this term because I had to have surgery and it was all a bit up in the air about managing time etc. What's wrong, she asked. Do you know anything about hearts, I asked. A bit, she said. Well I have a biscupid aortic valve, I said, and was about to explain all about it ... until she stared at me and said: "So do I."
She is nearly 40 and still on biannual echoes (she's very fit). I'm nearly 43 and had been on yearly echoes for about a decade until last year. It's the first time I'd met somebody, by chance, who had a BAV. I think we'll become friends!
