Hello Valvers,
I am three years post OHS for valve replacement and am surprised that my chest wall can still get sore with certain activities. Last week I saw a personal Trainer to get a weight lifting program restarted-- I haven't lifted for 4 years. Anyways now my anterior and lateral chest wall feels stiff and sore like it did if I "over did it" after valve surgery. I am very active--
Run,. XC ski, snowshoe, so I am surprised by this soreness.Any comments on this? Any advise?...time for Tylenol.

Since my 2nd OHS, I have similar issues. I just stick to lower body if I can. I wish i knew what causes it, but just accept it. For me, I assume it has something to do with the pacer wires that I still have (crudely cut off by a new resident) as well as internal scare tissue from the surgeries...and bicycle accidents.

I've often found that if you haven't worked muscles aggressively for some time, when you re-start any program, you hurt in places you never knew you could hurt. I think it is normal to hurt if you haven't been lifting for quite some time, but if the discomfort doesn't subside, I would start to look for causes.

Just lighten up, start with lighter weights and higher reps, then gradually increase the weight and see how it goes. I just find that for me it is best to take some time off to heal if I am hurting, then re-start when I am past the pain.
