I know that lifting heaving weights is not recommended for mechanical valvers. I've seen many of the previous posts on this subject. My question is what specifically does this do to the valve? Does the increase in blood pressure harm the valve leaflets?

I have also heard that weightlifting can be done with tissue valves. Is this true?

Also, can emotional stress have the same negative effect on a valve as weightlifting, as this also raises blood pressure.

I was told never to do any lifting or wrestling. Not sure why, but I think it had something to do with the pressure on the aortic root and possible disection.

I also was told that mild lifting (circuit training) is okay, but not the heavy stuff.

Hey Ross.... great picture... looks just like you (well, actually, it looks a bit better than you... just kidding) !
