snowy - Sharpsburg, Ga USA
I am in Fl Panhandle - we have cold winters; hot summers.

A week or so before Christmas we had weather in high 70s and 80s. We had blue birds all over the yard checking blue bird boxes, wrens, too, looking for nesting spots. Other birds were everywhere, too. Then it got freezing at Christmas and the week after.

We are again having warm weather and birds seeking nesting places. Plants are budding out. Daffodils are jumping up 6-8 inches tall. Fig tree has buds all over it. Gerbera daisies are coming up.

Wonder what all this means - My son told me he had heard weather folk say that SE will have early spring, mild summer.

What about you?

I'm not bragging about our weather (actually it's rain out there now), just interested and wondring about the rest of the country. We haven't had a check for awhile now. Bonnie usually starts it, but she's got a cold.

It's bizarre up here. We've had only one snow and it didn't stick to the ground more then one day. It's been in the 40's and 50's for the most part. Cloudy most of the time as winter usually is here, but it's far from what a winter could be.

Nosnow to speak of in the midwest. Lots of rain. So it's not dry. Ski areas up north WI, etc. No snow. One in particular....usually employs about 500 during the winter months. Down to 10 emps. Must be hurting them.

We had our fill of snow for the winter recently out west.:p Colorado in not hurting!

It seems like here (Cincinnati area) we skipped winter and have gone straight to spring and the rain it brings. I know that will not last but the weather has been way too warm for the plants and animals to react properly. We have spring plants budding and the squirrels and birds just seem confused. No snow to speak of and only a few days of really cold weather. Everyone has the sniffles and some are really sick. No cold spells to kill the germs (unless that is an old wive's tale).

On a slightly different tack - wonder why everyone goes out to public places when they are sick. Chris and I have been at many places recently where people are hacking and sneezing and do not seem the least bit concerned. We have decided to stop going to our favorite place (a local Chinese buffet) because of all the sick people filling their plates while coughing and sneezing. YUCK. Of course, I realize the people behind the scenes in the kitchens are probably sick as well.:(

I am starting to understand why Howard Hughes was a recluse.;) :D ;)

Agree Gina..........it would be nice if the sick stayed home. At least stay off of the aircraft. Recently caught a nasty cold on the way out to CO. Came down with it on 12/25 and still have it! Was healthy as can be before getting on that plane! Then to suffer through vacation hacking away....and probaly getting more people sick. It's a vicious cycle! I do stay home when I am sick. Keep my child out of school when she is obviously running a fever. You would not beleive the amount of parents that medicate and send them on in! Around 12 noon...that Tylenol or Motrin wears off...and it becomes obvious. At that point..they have infected the class!

It's 70 F here in upstate NY today! Freaky! Everyone is out riding bikes, jogging, or walking in shorts. The bulbs in our garden have several days of growth on them. They're so confused!

We've had a lot of gloomy, drizzly or misty days, but only one day with a sprinkling of snow that melted when it hit the ground.

When it was 40 here last week, it was almost 60 downstate.

The weather's been pretty good for bike riding, but I was hoping to get my valve cross-country skiing this winter!

SATURDAY
High: 72 Low: 45
Partly Cloudy
I have all my windows open it is soo nice to air out the house in Jan, and I love snow, but it's nice thinking about how low the heating bill will be so far.
Yesterday Justin went to the poconos snowboarding (all manmade snow), but most of the mountains are closed even if they make snow all night it is too hot so melts right away, the mountain he went to was probably was only open because of a big radio event take the day off and hit the slopes, one of their biggest days of the year, but even there with snow making less than 1/2 the runs were open and lift tix were only 93.3 and bought in advance so he and his friend went, they stayed for about 4-5 hours then the rain was getting too heavy and washing the snow away or makig big slush piles.
he has a picture from the last time he went, wherr he is standing holding his board in fall leaves right next to one of the snow cverred runs, you don't see that often in the poconos

Hi Hens

I was in shorts today in dear old Long Island!!!! It is beautiful, rainy this a.m. but turned into a great day. We did lots of outside chores before the S...comes, but who knows, maybe it won't!!!! Wouldn't that be nice.

Be well.

Evelyn

Gosh, that's crazy weather for you northerners!! I can't imagine :p

I'm in central Florida....near Daytona, I HAD to turn my air on today, nothing like AC in January!

Here in Texas, the weather is unpredictable, as usual. Here, in San Antonio we have a drought. We got some rain the other night, but the heavy stuff went right on by into Louisiana, where I'm sure they didn't need it. The temperatures have been wonderful. High 50's and 60's in the daytime and 40's and high 30's at night. It makes up for the summers.

I just e-mailed you a few minutes ago before I found this thread.(Babysat last night)out of town...but, just turned on T.V...and see where BAD weather NOW from cental Alabama thru your neck of the woods over to Tallahasse, Fla..Tornado type weather..Take care. Bonnie

It's mild and misty in SE MO. I assume this is how England's climate must be.

Our weather

Our weather

Now, that I am hunting down Ann..:D making sure she is hunkered down for this blast of bad weather passing her way.. Our weather is crazy, too...Rained all day Friday..cleared out yesterday..had kids playing in warm backyard..woke this morning..raining hard and drove home in rain, fog.. ...Now, on T.V. Alabama is under tornado watches....We had a tornado that touched down near the Alanta airport Friday morning.Lots of damage in a neighborhood......We get the bad weather that comes from Alabama ..mainly in Central Georgia.......Atlanta T.V. will pre-ep all programs and follow the bad weather...from town to town with updates on the time..that people should take cover... .................On a funny note. We have seen turkey buzzards roosting here on our lakes.Hundreds..they normally go further South this time of the year...........Noticed them a few days ago....they will not starve..for all the dead roadkill we have..from the rain/foggy nights..getting hit by cars.:p Bonnie

71 degrees in Boston yesterday!

71 degrees in Boston yesterday!

Today on my way home from work, I saw cherry trees full of buds ready to open. That's a little scary! Though I do love the warm weather...

The storm Bonnie talked about Friday had a tornado touchdown in our county in my grandsons neighborhood. Luckily his house was spared. Last night we had the tornado sirens go off around 7:30 and a small tornado touched down about 5 miles from us and damaged 6 houses. It was 70 yesterday,52 this morning and suppose to be in the 20s in the morning. This is the strangest weather I have experienced in 28 years in Georgia.

Terry, I talked to Linda's husband last night - in Sharpsburg. It was across town from them and they got no damage either.

It has been very warm here and lots of rain but all gone now and this morning it was 30!!!!

Ann, a girl that works for the county I work for lives near me. Her house was badly damaged and her brand new Mustang destroyed. Sometimes I think I would rather be back in Calif. with the earthquakes than here in Georgia with the tornadoes.

Strange......

Strange......

*Its strange for me to read where people are talking about 'tornados' ...tornado sirens...and such !!! We see it on TV but it makes it 'real' when I see people I 'know' talk about it. Take care you guys !!

Winter is here for a couple days now. It's actually snowing off and on. Still nothing sticking to the ground though.
