Yes, that one, the Head Honcho...the Commander in Chief!

George W. Bush came to my home town, (St. Cloud, MN) this morning! And we went to see him. Well...some of us could see him better than others could...(Rain, sometimes I wish I had your height)!

He was speaking from the stands of a baseball field, right behind homeplate. We, along with the rest of the crowd, were standing out in the field, (or was it outstanding in our field?), anyway, I guess we were somewhere around where 2nd base should have been. Ray was able to see pretty good, being over 6 ft tall, and I could get a glimpse of him now and then if I stood on my tippy-toes... and everyone's heads were in just the right place. If you were any shorter than me, I don't think you had a chance.

I had to get up at 5:15 this morning...drive from Princeton to St. Cloud, (about 30 miles), park, walk 3 or 4 blocks one way, just to turn around and walk back, stand for about 3 hours walk back to the parking lot and then wait in traffic to get out... but it was worth it! At least I can say I saw the president in person-the opportunity may not present itself again in my lifetime.

Ray took a few pictures, but he used the digital zoom...so they're not really clear...but at least you can tell who they are:

Thanks for the pics.

Like all presidents - I've noticed his hair is much much grayer than when he took office.

Hey Jean,
I bet you guys really enjoyed that. Not many of us can say we have seen our President in person.
Take Care

I actually flew from Dallas to Houston with him on Southwest Airlines (nothing fancy for W in those days). But, that was about 1993, when he was just the owner (I think) of the Rangers. His dad had already been vice pres and pres by that time, so he had some secret service with him, but it impressed me that he rode Southwest just like the rest of us peons. He was friendly with anyone who talked to him, and was probably already considering his run for governor.

When his dad was vice president and running for president, the plastic surgeon I worked for was one of his big supporters. One day we received a phone call and the caller claimed it was George Bush. Our receptionist knew it wasn't the vice president and thought it was one of the doctor's friends playing a joke, so she said "Yeah, sure, who is it really?" He replied, "Just tell him I'm on the phone please." The doctor wasn't very happy when he found that our receptionist had been rather rude to George W. Bush.

Cracking pics!

Cracking pics!

Hi Jean, nice pictures! Robert, my husband, is Scottish, but likes Bush a lot and thinks he'll win the ellections. I'll show him the photos.

Lisa, what an interesting experience! My husband and I have been watching him a lot on CNN lately.

Thanks for the pictures!! I just love George W.

Jean,

George W. was in Farmington, NM ...about 70 miles from my house a couple weeks ago. I suppose I should have carried my long legs down there to see him... but I already know what he looks like. :p :D lol

Just wait until you meet my Ry...... then you?ll REALLY know what long legs are. He's still in Fort Collins, so he'll be down for the reunion.

Sara loves his long legs more than anyone. She still talks him into putting her on his shoulders at this kind of events. This summer she watched the fireworks at Disneyland from his shoulders! :D

Only 22 days!! :D :D
