Here is a fun fact -- there also seems to be an association of Lp(a) with lower overall cancer incidence among older patients. There is some conjecture that Lp(a) may be protective against cancer, even as it pushes you into heart disease. To my knowledge, none of this is conclusive -- however, I'd wager that people with high Lp(a) might happen to be more likely to be on warfarin than is normal, thanks to the heart issues high Lp(a) makes people prone to developing. Whether or not this would have anything to do with the JAMA article above is pure conjecture, but it is an interesting question.
