I was excited when I learned that warfarin was on the list of $4.00 prescriptions (I don't have insurance) however now I find that my 5mg warfarin is $4.00, but my 7.5 mg pill is $28. Any theories on why this is so? Logic would make you think that both would be on the $4.00 drug list.
Anyone?....

That's a good question. Walmart price for 5mg is $4.00. I am on 4mg alternating 6mg and it cost $24.36. Doesn't make sense. I switched to walmart because there are several medications that I can get for $4.00. That is a blessing because I don't have insurance and my medications are almost $1800.00 a month. It is sometimes hard to do and I have to buy what I can afford and sometimes I can't get a full prescription due to the high cost. The most expensive are the Lovenox shots, they are $750.00 for 10 shots!!!! I will be glad to get off of them. It is ridiculous what we have to pay just to stay healthy. Our elderly are suffering too due to high prices. But what are we suppose to do. I take 15 different types of medicine that's 32 pills daily!!! If I stop, then I won't live. So I do the best I can.

I asked Walmart and they told me that the 5mg warfarin is the most prescribed strength and they buy in massive quantities.

The other thing with Walmart is you have to really watch it if you are buying generic meds that have been out for a long time. For example, I can buy 300 lasix tabs from Drugstore.com for $17 but Walmart sells 30 tabs for $4. Obviously, they are not cheaper on some drugs.

Also, the $4 is for 30 tabs in most cases even if your doctor prescribes more than one tablet/day. I take 2 potassium tabs per day so I have to pay $8 at Walmart for a 30 day supply. Still a good buy but not really clear when they say they charge $4 for a 30 day supply. You have to look at their list to find out how many pills you can get for your $4.

That's interesting Gina i would ask again at your walmart, because I get one of my meds there that i take 3 times a day and they gave me my 3 month supply/270 pills for 12 dollars. I only get the pills on the 4 dollar list and get the rest of my meds at the pharmacy that is closer.

Here are 2 other sites to help with the cost of medications. You can get meds free with some of the programs if you qualify.

I talked myself out about it. They have a list that shows the max amount you can get for $4. Some meds do allow 60 or 90 tablets but my potassium (extended release type) only allows a max of 30. I do get the 60 tablets I need for 30 days but it costs $8.
