I heard today that the California Department of Health has discovered that a new product being used to treat prostate cancer has been accidentally or intentionally adulterated with warfarin. The current name of this product is PC-SPES.The product is being recalled by the FDA. Al,have you heard of this? Is it an herbal product?

PC-SPES is.......

PC-SPES is.......

I just received an Email from Tieraona Low Dog MD an expert in
herbal medicine. She says PC-SPES is a combination of herbs including saw palmetto, ginseng, ganoderma, licorice, and others.
Its use in prostate cancer can be found in greater detail in medline. However if you or a loved one have gotten hold of some of it specifically for prostate cancer...flush it. Its contaminated with warfarin.

I guess they put it in there to make the product look good. If you are diagnosed with a blood clot of unknown origin, there is a greater than normal chance that you will be diagnosed with cancer during the next year. I can't remember the reference, but I have seen somewhere that if you take warfarin for that year, you have a slightly smaller chance than normal of being diagnosed with cancer during that year.

You can read almost weekly of some herbal being imported that is contaminated with a prescription drug.
