Wow! I cannot believe how fast your INR can change when you are sick. Caleb came down with a fever and vomiting on Monday and on Tuesday I called the coumadin clinic that watches his INR, they wanted to me to check him, His INR was 7.1! I also took him in to his pc and he has strep. This is the first for any of my kids. Anyway with holding his dose for one day and some rehydrating his INR is coming back down just fine today we are at 4.4.

I did have to laugh when the coumadin clinic told me to sit him down and don't let him move. Because you know he will bruise very easily.

Oh yes. Mine was 3.9 on the Monday and by Thursday it was 8.9. I had hardly eaten or drunk anything since the Sunday when I started feeling ill.

If I feel ill like that again I will get it checked out.

If you aren't eating and drinking as much because of an illness, it will go up fast. Dehydration will cause the INR to raise. Then there's the illness that doesn't allow you to keep the warfarin down. And antibiotics that can raise it. The good news is that illnesses are usually short-lived and you can get your INR back in range fairly easily.

While it is very hard to eat enough greens to cause the INR to drop, it is very easy to not eat and have the INR skyrocket. I probably see at least one INR that is greater than 8 every week and seldom does anything happen.
