A friend from Louisiana had descending aortic aneurysm repaired Dec. 8 in Houston. She's had some problems with arrhythmia, so her doctors have put her on warfarin, at least 3 months.
Friend had an ascending aortic aneurysm repaired in summer or fall of 1999, and when the descending one was found several years ago, she was given pretty dire prognosis and told nothing could be done.
She's about 75.
I called one of her dtrs Wednesday night and related that my husband had been put on warfarin post-MV repair for the same reason, and she was quite relieved to hear it and that he got off after 7 months.
The friend's husband had been on warfarin at some point (probably a-fib; I didn't ask).

If my memory is correct, the friend is/has been a smoker and may have lung issues. I didn't ask if the doctors had mentioned amiodarone, but it appears that she's NOT on that. My guess is that doctors would be less prone to RXing amiodarone for people with lung issues. (I'm sure someone will set me straight.)

So this is another situation of someone who didn't figure warfarin into the picture post-op and her surgery wasn't valve-related.
