The love story of Johnny Cash and June Carter....Never go to movies..so rented the video today..Watched it this afternoon. ( Not a night person)... what a wonderful movie..I think I may have heard one bad word in the entire movie. I knew that Reese Witherspoon won last night. Best Actress...How in the world, Joaquin Phoenix did not win for playing Johnny Cash..he learned to sing and play the guitar..before making the movie.. and looked just like Johnny Cash in the last hour of movie... I just read on reviews that Johnny Cash had picked him to play his part..before Johnny died in 2003...4 months after June... I don't know, but, I'm hoping there is a CD of this movie. Music was great..Bonnie

Bonnie, the Walk The Line Soundtrack CD does exist. It has been on the music charts for several weeks. Should be in any music store, K-Mart, etc.

Movie "Walk The Line" is awesome.

Movie "Walk The Line" is awesome.

I saw this movie twice so far and absolutely loved it. :D :D Bought the soundtrack right away and have not stopped playing it. I walk the treadmill most days at 6AM and that music gives me the energy I need to exercise that early. I haven't grown tired of it yet. So I cannot say enough positive things about it. Those two actors were so good, and it is a real shame that Joaquin didn't win. He shouldv'e won and did an outstanding job playing Johnnie Cash.
I never bought any of the Cash's music when they were alive but admired them for the great people they were.
Did you all know that June Carter Cash died because of complications after her valvereplacement in 2004?

hi christina,
hoe gaat het? haven't seen you in awhile. hope you are doing well! glad to see you!

i also loved this movie. did you know that reese had to learn to sing for this movie? isn't that amazing? she is so multi-talented; i just love her_ a real lady.
too bad joaquin didn't win. i like him too...

just rented north country and thought charlize, as always, was also great.
too many good choices sometimes...

I believe she predeceased Johnny by a couple years--2003 maybe? I'm not a country music fan at all, but I do make an exception for Johnny Cash. My dad used to listen to him when I was a little girl and I still know the words to some of his songs...his and some of Roger Miller's songs too. (I just loved "You Can't Rollerskate in a Buffalo Herd" when I was a kid!)

No, June Carter Cash died in May of 2004 and Johnnie died 4 months later of a broken heart.

It seems a little bit broad to label Hollywood as having a "flavor of the month". . .. What is this about? There were lots of movies that won that didn't have anything to do with racism or gay movies - may I name a few?

Memoirs of a Geisha
King Kong
The Chronicles of Narnia
March of the Penguins
Wallace and Grommit
Syriana
and. . .Walk the Line

 Ahhh-pictures that move--isn't it wonderful, especially since they got talkies.
I guess moving pictures (movies) caught on but talkies didn't, the word, that is.
I went to see King Kong, because I had been so fascinated with the original. Went by myself:( wife not interested. That was the first movie since"Ghost". I wanted to go to see "walk the line" wife wanted to go also:D but it was gone shortly after it arrived. Didn't stick around long enough??
However if the songs are good enough to buy a cd, then I will buy the movie. It should be good enough for at least three viewings. We've watched "love story" at least 5 times, a real tear-jerker.
I have been a fan of Cash for years, his voice was original and unmistakable and I know he was on a downward spiral with life and then met June, and to put it bluntly, I believe (she saved his ass) A REAL LOVE STORY and I look forward to seeing it.

I know I'm going off the topic...but as soon as I saw your photo I was struck by your likeness to the Actor Charlton Heston (hope that's the correct spelling!..the one who starred in "Ben Hur") :)

I grew up with "Johnny"

I grew up with "Johnny"

as my Dad called him. I remember watching he and June sing together on TV - thinking wow they have chemistry and really love one another. I liked what Reese Witherspoon said at her acceptance speech about June, when asked how she was, would say, "I'm just tryin' to matter." I like that and am going to adopt that saying as my own instead of my usual reply of "I'm fine." :)

As for Reese winning the award, I guess she was "good" as June if you didn't grow up watching June and Johnny on TV and listening to them on records - but to me, I feel another actress (I don't know who!) would have been a better choice to play her. Reese did not have that throaty voice as June and also did not have the "oomph" or moxy that June had.

As for Joaquin - bravo!! He should have won the Oscar if you ask me.

Charlton??

Charlton??

Maureen, that may be, but sorry to say in the stature dept. I fall far short from C.H. I am half a foot shy of being a six-footer.:( A strange thing---my father was six-ft. even, and I have 4 brothers that are 5 ft, 10in. or better. What happened in the genetic dept. I'd like to know. Am I an anomaly??  I thank you for the compliment:eek:

Yeah, I know I'm bringing up an "old" thread, but indulge me since I've been offline a few weeks....

Just last night (Friday), I saw this movie with my parents and sis and her hubby. We all enjoyed it, but were a bit "confused" by the ending ... we were all like, "That's the end"?

*shrugs*

Overall, it was a great movie, I thought. Sure glad I saw it.

Darn!!!

Darn!!!

I was looking for some really juicy gossip here. Thought maybe granbonny had nipped a little too much moonshine and had had to "walk the line" to try and evade a PI charge. Guess I'll have to go spread some rumors elsewhere..................:D :D Darn it!

P.S. We did spend the last few days in Quitman, TX, Sissy Spacek's hometown. A Coalminer's Daughter is probably the last adult film I have gotten to see............sigh!

Sylvia,

Het gaat heel goed met mij. It'll be 6 years for me this August.
I also loved Joaquin Phoenix and was disappointed that he didn't win. Yes, isn't Reese a classy lady, a girl after my own heart. I know she had to learn to play that instrument (whatever it is called) and learn to sing. Wow, wow, wow.. I am still listening to the CD several times a week. It gives me the energy to want to walk the treadmill again. YEAH!!!
I still have to rent North Country. My daughter told me what a great movie that is.. I don't take enough time for the fun things it seems. Always other important stuff to do.. sigh..
Take good care... BTW...you have two good looking daughters. I saw the album...

Oh how true this is! I'm guilty of this phenomenon, too, sadly. :(.

:) HI Cort Glad to see you back.

I took a long hiatus and snuck in and Ross caught me and shamed me into showing my face. Made me feel like a sneak thief:mad:
I looked for posts from you but didn't see any, so looked you up and saw that you were off for awhile. Hope things are going well for you and I'd give you a thumbs up, but I guess they took them off.
Movies are a great escpe and some can be so thought stimulating----a great invention.:D see ya!

*grins*

Hey RAM, good to see YOU, too! Very glad Ross got you to show your face again ;).

As for me, I was away due to computer issues (power pack decided it didn't like me or my computer) and some other issues. But now, I'm back ... for now ;).

As for movies ... I agree with your assessment of them. For whatever reason, though, I'm not much of a movie goer ... unless I'm with others. My best friend can go by herself no problem ... me, no way, no how ... he he he.
