Waiting for the call...

The facility where I am having my surgery has you call between 8 and 11 am the day before your surgery, and then they call you back sometime before 4pm to let you know if you are still "on" or if you have been bumped. At this point I'm all packed, have told my daughter that I will be leaving today, have hotel rooms booked, and have started my disability leave from work. I'm really hoping I'm still on schedule. I definitely understand that there may be others who need my spot, and I'm thankful that I'm not the emergency case, but it would still be tough to get bumped this last minute.

For anyone who has been bumped, how long are you generally bumped for? I'd hate to have to wait for another three months to get back on the schedule again. (that's how far in advance my surgeon was booked when I originally scheduled this.)

I think that this is the worst part of the whole thing, personally… waiting for the call to see if tomorrow is the big day, or if you have been bumped.

Skyler was bumped about 8 times… He finally had his surgery about a month later (if I remember correctly).

It was frustrating in terms of time off work and getting people organized for babysitting, etc… Especially since it happened so many times.

I got the call...I'm still on for first thing tomorrow. It was the best and worst news I could have gotten! Best, because I don't want to go through this anxiety all over again, but worst, because I knew it was time to say goodbye to my daughter for a little while.

I'm glad you got the call, even though there is anxiety attached. I will be thinking of you for the next few days and give my own almost 3yo daughter many hugs and kisses to make up for the ones you would want to give your own.

The end of waiting is a very good thing. My own AVR was first thing on a Tuesday morning; just think by Saturday or Sunday it is likely you will be home. Best wishes.
