Good news, Another case of unexplained double vision written off as occular migraines or some other unexplained cause. I had a consult with a Neurologist, MRI on the brain and a carotid doppler (Ultrasound on the carotid arteries) and all tests were fine.
I had two occurences of double vision within two weeks of surgery and then one this spring and one in July of this year. The one in July lasted about a minute and a half and was by far the longest, and scariest, as I was driving in to work!
As long as they do not become more common I do not have to go through any other tests. :D

There is another

There is another

message board on the web under Dr. Walt Stoll's name. He is a holistic medicine doctor. You can find holistic answers to every health question you have on this site.

Anyway, I was on that board a while back trying to find some help with GERD.

There is a long thread on there about ocular migraines. The people who were talking about it have no heart disease or valve disease - but they get these VERY SAME visual disturbances as we do.

I do not AT ALL think that they are TIAs, etc., what we valvers are getting UNLESS it is the gray curtain or black curtain thing going on - that is different. Most of us talk about zig-zag lines, as if we are looking through a prizm, and a slight headache afterwards. That IS an ocular migraine, no doubt about it.

Ocular migraines are brought on by stress, hormonal changes, vascular changes, etc.

Steve, I had the very same tests years ago (way before my heart surgery) and the diagnosis was ocular migraine. My eye doctor (a female) gets them herself. I had them more frequently in the year following my surgery but have not had one for quite a while now. They are freaky but they are "harmless."

Ocular Migraines

Hi Steve,
I am new to the site and browsing but wanted to let you know that I have been having ocular migraines for 30 years. I may go for months with none and then have several in a short period. I had quite a few after my heart surgery in August but none this month.
They are distracting but not seriousl
Take care.

Is it strictly a visual problem or do you also get the pain associated with a migraine? I get the typical Aura, tunnel vision and sometimes blindness or blurred vision in one eye or the other....This usually happens about 10 minutes before the pain starts.

Fortunately I usually never get headache pain. Sometimes I get pain on the back of my neck (migraine?), but usually, I just get weird floaters that gradually disappear, and since the heart surgery, double vision a few times.
