Has any one been using Vioxx and then have your heart valve go bad quickly? My aortic valve went past critical much sooner than the doctor expected. Now I wonder if Vioxx could have been the cause. Has anyone else had this happen?

Celebrex

Celebrex

I have been taking Celebrex for over 2 yrs. Now that I have a new valve replacement , I would be very interested to hear from anyone if this does anything to the valve itself. Syl

Hi, saw you post. I have been taking vioxx for over two years with no problems. Had AVR on 12-15-2000, and started retaking it soon after surgery. I have a homograph, so I'm not sure if that makes a difference. martha

Med that effects after valve surgery

Med that effects after valve surgery

Martha, Thanks for letting me know about your information. I really start to wonder what I should take that is safe. Good to hear from someone like you. Thanks again. Syl:)

Martha, did you have the valve replaced before you began taking Vioxx? I took Vioxx for two years before my valve was replaced and the valve got past critical within a year from when the cardiologist thought I would have 5-10 years before surgery. I didn't think about the Vioxx connection until just recently. My St. Jude aortic valve was put in in June, 2001. Lois

Hi loann,

Started taking the voixx way before the surgery. Was born with a bicuspid and then several years later they found a stinosis. Things moved along realy quickly. Went from mild to moderate to severe in a two year time. My cardio thought that was fast, and that I would have had more time. There are many in this group that have had similiar experiences. Not taking vioxx though. Both cardio and surgeon new what I took, as far as meds, and thought all was fine. Hope this answers all your questions. If I can be of any further help please let me know. martha

Thanks, Martha. It has only been recently that I have become to question whether the Vioxx made the valve get worse so quickly. I see the ads from the lawyers asking about heart, stroke and kidney problems for those who have taken Vioxx. I also had a bicuspid valve and the doctors didn't take me off it until a few weeks ago. When I asked him if it was because of the lawsuits, he didn't want to say that was the reason but he didn't say it wasn't the reason either. I just hope if this is really a problem that doctors take their patients with valve problems off Vioxx. loann

Lawyer's

Lawyer's

Hey girl, What is this I hear you saying about V-and lawyers.
My doc put my on V-cause of some really bad pain in my arm & shoulder, haven't heard any bad news on the V though, would you care to fill me in alittle!
Thanks

The local paper has big ads from lawyers that say if you have taken Vioxx and have had heart problems, strokes, or kidney problems to contact them. I also heard on one of the financial programs on tv when they were discussing the company that makes Vioxx that they were having problems with Vioxx. I just wondered if the heart problems was just blood clots forming and blocking arteries or if it had affected the aortic valve of other people. I know that my niece's doctor took her off Vioxx. loann

Hi loann,

I do believe the heart problems associated with the medication was not valve problems. Will be checking with my rhumatoligist this week to make sure. When I have an answer I will let you know. In the mean time, try not and worry. martha

Martha, I had a consultation today with a pharmacist who has studied nutrition and complementary medicine. Herbal, European. I told him about my concern about Vioxx and heart valves. His wife has been on Vioxx and was having some kind of problem --I don't know what her problem was. So they had read the latest information from the company and there is no mention of heart valve complications but then when it went on the market they never mentioned the heart, stroke and kidney problems. Many of the new meds show side effects after people have been taking them for a few years. I guess time will tell. I hope you are feeling well. Of course, my doctor took me off Vioxx in February without telling me why he did it. Lois
