Last Friday (12/10), I flew to Santa Barbara CA to judge a cat show in Ventura.
Got to DFW Airport early enough to get a snack before my 6:20 p.m. flight. Been on Weight Watchers (am now a size 12, down from 18!!); wanted to avoid something fatty because I knew I'd be exposed to Christmas treats over the weekend. Found a sports bar that had terrific boiled shrimp, so I got that and a coffee.
Woman @ next table was doing the same. We chatted a little. Found out her sister, who lives in Amarillo TX, had MVR (mechanical) about a year ago. Apparently having difficulty getting INR to stay in range.
Gave her vr.com's website to give to her sister.

Got on the plane. My seatmate and I chatted during the flight. She was flying back to Santa Barbara from Connecticut, where she lived until moving to CA in July. Had to have an echo, EKG and wear a Holter monitor. Has MVP. Has had some breathlessness, etc. I told her my story and about vr.com. We exchanged names, addresses, phone #'s, e-mail addys, etc.

Saturday night while in CA, I was at a party & chatted with a woman I've known a number of years. She asked about my heart surgery, wanted to know if my initial diagnosis was MVP. Asked a lot of questions. Turns out she has MVP. Had not had a repeat echo in years. Told her to ask her PCP for an update echo.

Wow!!! I could not believe the coincidences...

Wish I had a business card for vr.com I could whip out and hand to people.

Good job!

Good job!

Marsha,

Nicely done! We will all look forward to some new "visitors" who have been guided here by you. It certainly is a small world.

I'm sure it felt good to have something as positive as this forum (and your personal success) to share with others who are new to the anxieties and questions of heart valve conditions.

You must have felt quite amazed to run into so many people in one excursion!!

And great job with weight watchers!! Congrats on keeping true to your plan through the holidays!

:) Marguerite

No such thing as coincidences. God-cidences, you bet. You had a very busy and productive trip!!!!

It would be nice to have some sort of VR card to pass out. Seems like I'm frequently recommending the site to people.

Any ideas Hank? I was thinking of some type of publisher file that we could print out on our own printer-friendly business cards. But then Hank would run the risk of someone *******izing them somehow and causing some kind of trouble (not sure what, but then I don't have a devious mind - most of the time.)

Good work Marsha - keep on spreading the news!

I think so too. I guess we need to ask ourselves if we risk it for the benefit of the site or not? Of course, look around, they have many other ways of doing the samething already.

I think you should refer this to Mr. Hank and get his thoughts. I'm sure I know what they are, but I'll let him speak on his own behalf.

This topic of VRcom business cards was discussed after the Chicago reunion, and I think at that time Hank said he would look into posting a pattern we could use to print our own cards.
Hank handed out BEAUTIFUL business cards in Chicago, and I distributed my stack of cards in useful places, such as to my cardiologist, to my PCP, to my anticoagulation nurse, etc.
I would be glad to have another stack of those cards to distribute.

Wish I had known you were in Ventura last weekend. I live in Camarillo and would have loved to meet you -- and learn about a cat show.

So, um, how'd the cat show go?

*grins*

That's so cool that you meet several people and gave them vr.com as a resource!

As JimL indicated, Hank gave out some nice business cards at the Chicago reunion. I've given some out...and still have a bunch.

BTW, you were very close to a couple of my uncles and their families. In fact, one of my cousins got married on the Ventura beach in 2003.

We could always ask to have the card produced in the Adobe .pdf format. The file could then be made a "read only" file that only individuals with the password could modify. Lots of businesses use the format, and almost every computer around has the reader software. If you don't have the reader, it can be downloaded for free from the web.
