Sandy SHields

I had mitral valve surgery back in 1983 with a b-jork shiley mitral valve. I really haven't had any problems with it at all. I started having a fib last october which has given me problems two cardioversions in less than 6 month. i have been put on two different meds now I am on Rythmol 425mg twice a day.I am not sure if it is the medicine or not but I have been extremely tired this last two weeks. I have to make my self do things like got to work, clean house etc. is there anyone out there that takes this med and having the same effects as I am ? Thanks

Hi Sandy:

My dad's on propafanone for A-fib, so I was interested in your question. I don't know how much dad takes, but a quick google brought me to: http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic3/propafen_ids.htm. It sounds like yours is a pretty high dosage according to rxlist and I'll bet it hits expecially hard when you're taking it in 2 doses a day instead of the 3 smaller doses a day they describe. Did your doc start you on a lower dose and work you up to what you're taking? Have you called your doc to let him/her know how you're feeling? I hope someone else has some insight for you. Take care.

Have you had your hemoglobin checked? Maybe you are anemic. That is not unusual, particularly with the older valves. I've been really "draggin' my wagon" the last 3 weeks or so. I had my 6 mo check w/ my cardio last week and sure enough, I'm anemic. She put me on Feosol 65mg/day and after about 4 days, I feel my energy coming back.

It may not be the answer, but it would be worth checking since it's just a simple blood test.

Yes they started me on 325 mg twice a day then they went to 3 times a day until the the hosp, and pharm. could get the med in stock no one carried it in 425 mg doses. well actually the hosp. didn't have any at all I had to take my own that I had while in the hosp. being cardioverted.
