Hey,

Does anyone have experience with the calcium channel blocker, Verapamil? I'm trying it and feel positively exhausted, even though my BP and heartrate are normal.

What causes the fatigue, anyone know?

Thanks,

Hi Kim -

I've never taken it but I've heard that it (as a calcium channel blocker) can cause some indigestion and/or heartburn-type problems. My dad took it for fourteen years, for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. I used to take a different type of calcium channel blocker, for hypertension. Actually, however, every different thing I was on for hypertension, ACE inhibitor or beta blocker or calcium channel blocker (you aren't supposed to take beta blockers with calcium channel blockers simultaneously, if I remember correctly), made me tired. My hypertension disappeared with my new valve, though!

my husband

my husband

takes 180 mg twice a day, he has pulminary hypertension, and it is the only thing that lowers his pressures..and Ive found its best to give it to him at night as it does make him drowsy. So I just changed docs instructions a bit, otherwise he was falling asleep at work..at parties..on the drive..lol.. its easier for him now.
I have to take atenenol daily..and it too makes me drowsy so I take it before bed as well.
I hope this helps..love Yaps
