Hi : I'm new to this so bear with me. I was wondering if anyone else has that st. jude valve implanted ~~ the one that was recalled because it was causing problems, on occasion.
I had that particular valve implanted on Jan. 11-2000 and before the end of January there was a recall on them. Mine is fine, so far, and they suggested that it should be checked on a regular bases. Thank God it is alright so far.
If anyone else has one of these valves would love to hear from you...... fundy/sandra

Hi Sandra,

I want to welcome you to this forum. We are all people who have had valve surgery or similar surgery, and we are here to help anyone who wants it.
I personally don't thave the St.Jude's Silzone valve that was recalled, but have the regular St.Jude's valve. As far as I know we have one person on the forum that has the Silzone valve implanted. Her name is Janie McDaniels and I am sure when she sees your post she'll post you a message and answer any questions you may have.
We realize there have been many problems concerning this valve and we have one member who's wife died after 10 weeks of having this particular valve implanted. He lives in Ireland and his name is Billy. Hopefully he'll come along as well and answer any questions you may have.
You might want to check out any old threads under valves and choices as many have been posted, also about the Silzone valve.
Sorry, I won't be able to help you much but someone will come along real soon, and I am sure you'll get all your questions answered.

Hi Christina : Thank you for responding! I look forward to hearing from the people you mentioned in regards to the "recalled" valve. Thank you once again.

Hi Sandra,
I too have a Saint Jude valve that has been recalled. I have had mine since November 1998. All is well, so far. My cardiologist said it appears that most of the people that had problems had them early on. So, I think (and hope) that ours are okay. I have an echo done once a year to be safe. I met Christina in line to get a flu shot here in Tucson. She is very nice. Talk to you again soon.

Hi Joni:

Thanks for responding to my post, I feel less alone now.
I had my valve implant at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute in Ottawa Ontario Canada.
I'm booked for my echo on June 10th and will have results when I visit my cardio on June 27th.
Will keep you posted .
