I just got my card in the mail a few days ago and now I am confused. I thought I had a St Jude valve replacement....but the card says:sorin biomedica device, size: 25 and then a serial number. Have any of you ever HEARD of this valve? OK...do I need to be worried that I have an inferior product beating in my chest?

Well, I looked them up on the internet and they have been making implantable product for a number of years. However, if you thought you were getting a St. Jude valve, then it's time to call the cardiologist's office and ask for an explanation.

I believe (without looking at my card) that my valve is a Sorin Carbomedics, and no, they are not inferior. For some reason, I didn't think they were used in the USA, but they seem to be the valve of choice up here in Canada, and perhaps (I have no real idea) in Europe. I think they are an Italian company???

That was just to ease your mind a little! I would certainly be calling the surgeon's office and asking him/her what the scoop is!

Yes, I am researching it now....is an italian company.

I am now beginning to question my memory on being told I was to get a St. Jude. This happened to me so fast, and so much of it is lost to stress and trying to get things in order in a few days while in the hospital. I am simply not sure I was told that now. My memory has started to fail me.

That's Very Interesting.

I believe Sorin is affiliated with Carbomedics, but like the others, thought that Sorin was NOT used in the USA. It is widely used in Europe (and presumably around the world).

LOL I had already read about "Pump Head" while I was trying to get caught up with the community Jeanette...thanks!

Al,

So, how do you suppose I ended up with one of these valves? Let me know if any of you find out when they became available here. I may be a "pumphead" on some things, but I am pretty sure I live in the US! At least I think I do!:(

I wouldn't worry about it, but I would want an explaination. Could be that your particular nomenclature was such, that they didn't have the proper size St. Jude at the time and put what they did have in.
