Hi Everyone!
Well, I have discussed in other threads about possibly having a uterine ablation done to help out with my heavy periods. I'll try to keep this short. My gyn had previously told me that I could stay on coumadin if he did the procedure in his office and used the freezing technique. I actually had an appt made to do it on Dec 12th. My pcp called me today and told me that he spoke with my gyn and that my gyn wants me to come off coumadin and go on Lovenox. He wants to do this because of having to numb me for the procedure. I guess it is because of sticking me with needles to numb the area. He is concerned about bleeding. Well, I spoke with my pcp and we both decided to hold off on the ablation for now. There is no rush. My pcp and I are going to discuss this more sometime in the future. So that is where I am at with trying to have a uterine ablation done. I just don't understand why they are insisting on having me come off coumadin. I know I would be taking Lovenox instead but I guess I still see there being a small chance of a clot being thrown if I am not on my coumadin. Let me know what you all think.

Take Care!

Local anesthetic can sometimes cause more bleeding than without but I wouldn't think it would be that much, especially since he is using a freezing technique. Somehow that sounds like it would minimize bleeding. I think more discussion needs to be held about coming off coumadin. I agree with you in that you should resist this option.

How does your GYN think that Lovenox is given, by rubbing it gently on the skin?

When in for my 6 mo. cardio check-up I briefly discussed the ablation with her. I have to have a D & C done as well, so must come off Coumadin and bridge. But she seemed to think that staying on Coumadin for an ablation was appropriate.
