Arrived at So. Shore Hospital at 6:30 AM. The nurses prepped me and Dr. Marks came to talk to me abt the procedure. He looked at my records and was very concerned abt the condition of my aortic valve (.44 cm squared). Told me that i would definitely have to stay overnight at the hospital. Then he thought some more, and said I really don't think I should do this right now. I think it should be done immediately prior to your AVR surgery. I will call Dr. Cohn ( my surgeon at Brigham Women's in Boston) and discuss it with him. I waited until he finished the call. And he then told me that Dr. Cohn agreed. The problem is that my date for surgery is Aug. 17 which is a Monday. No procedures are done at the hospital over the week-end, ...and the middle of August is vacation time for most of the doctors. So now I have to wait to hear from Dr. Cohn as to what the plan is for the heart cath and the AVR surgery.
More waiting and worrying........

This waiting thing is the pits, but more often then not, it's by design and usually a good thing in the end.

Depending upon the length of your surgery that you have scheduled they could do the procedure that morning. This will move you to a later start time for the actual surgery. I hope it all works out for you. Good luck & God Bless.

That's a BUMMER.

The ONLY reason I can think of that the surgeon wants to put off your Heart Cath is that he might trust HIS Cardio's / Hospital more than he trusts the results from the one you were at.

EDIT: Well, maybe the surgeon wanted you to have your cath at His Hospital so that IF there was a problem, they could rush you into Surgery to Fix the Problem right away...

I'm pretty sure the surgeon will want a combined Left AND Right (not usually done) Cath so that he can assess your Pulmonary Function (right side) as well as the usual Coronary Arteries and primary (Aortic and Mitral) Valves.

As everyone says, WAITING is the Hardest Part of the whole experience.

Sorry for your wait but happy to hear your cardiologist is taking the time, interest and care to be sure you are kept safe and have the best possible care. Doesn't sound like he made this decision without careful thought. He has good reason one has to think.

Hopefully, they will get you into Brigham quickly for the cath and surgery.
