Friends,
I had my Stress Echo test today and was told by a cardiologist I was not critical; that my arteries were not clogged, and that everything was moving pretty well. She, of course, will send my cardiologist a report in one week, when I am scheduled to see him for the report. The cardiologist called my technician into another room to look at my TEE test, which the technician later told me was "quite impressive" under bicuspid terms. I demonstrated shortness of breath on the treadmill, moving from 93 to 156 in a fairly short period of time. I feel like my cardiologist will tell me next week he will monitor me every six months or so. Should I get a second opinion? My gradient was 91 this time instead of 75 several weeks ago, and my aortic opening was still approx. .8.

When I was in exactly your position (without the stress test, because I was a wussy!!:D ) I asked the cardiologist point blank....when do you send your patients to the surgeon? This turned out to be very good question to get the cardio to open up some more about her feelings about timing the surgery. It is elective surgery. YOU can decide when to have it. You will have to have it or die. If he honestly thinks he can keep you at .8 for a good long time, then certainly, why not wait. Get more familiar with what you are going to be in for. Take a nice trip somewhere. Use the time. But, if you are really ever so close, then why not ask for his surgeon recommendations. Then at least you can make an appointment with a surgeon, get the surgical opinion and have more info to go on.

Glad you aren't critical. That is great news.

I guess what I'm thinking is....use the surgeon as your second opinion!

Keep us posted!

I Have a Plan

Marguerite and others,
You are such a straightforward and encouraging person with everyone. You have really helped me focus on what is important. I am so thankful that I bumped into this site, as I have gleaned so much beneficial information from all of you. Marguerite, your response to my last post was most helpful. You helped to give me direction and I now know what I plan to do following my visit with my cardiologist here on Friday. I am currently enjoying my holiday with one of my sons in Lubbock. I was panicking and trying to rush through all of this, worried about family, job, etc., and I think I can now be more patient and thoughtful. Thank you so much and have a wonderful day!
Terry
