Well, I have been out of the loop for a few days............wallowing in self-pity, but that is another story...........anyway, I was so upset and shocked when I found out that Niki was back in the hospital that I had to go see her.

Despite all that she has been through, Niki looked and sounded great and is in amazingly good spirit. I'm in awe! I'm sure that she must have her moments of depression, but they don't seem to hold her down for long. Niki is so sick of the hospital and ready to get out of there and go back to work. If her insurance comes through for the portable VAC, she hopes to get out of there tomorrow. She's going to have to administer IV antibiotics through the PICC line for six weeks to ward off endocarditis, but is taking it all in stride. She is such a trooper - now you know why she is our hero!

Katie brought her a couple of cards that she "signed" and a blue wienier dog balloon and sang "Jingle Bells" for her (there is absolutely no point in telling Katie that Christmas is O-ver! :D and wouldn't it be good if everyone kept the Christmas spirit all year long?) I gave my mother hen lecture about overdoing it at work. And I guess that is about it. Niki had just finished typing up an update when we got there, so hopefully Erica will be forwarding that along soon. Please keep those prayers flowing for our gnusgal that this is absolutely the last setback for a long, long time and that the rest of her "recovery" goes smoothly. Hugs. J.

Janet -

Isnt she just amazing?? Niki never fails to amaze me and I think when she gets out of the hospital I may go and tie her up and bring her back to WI with me - I need her optimism right now as I am badly lacking in both optimism and in good cheer!! NIKI come back you have been gone far to long see what happens to me when I can't talk to you??? WIll post her update as soon as I recieve it!!!

Erica

I'm so glad she has finally gotten things sorted out.... sort of  I know she still has a few hurdles to overcome with this yet, but lets hope this is the downward slope!!

Niki -
Hugs and best wishes coming your way. Take it easy and never lose that spirit!!

Anna : )

Janet do they have her on Vancomycin, did you notice? I was another special person that got sent home with a PICC line and enough Gorillamycin to last nearly 9 weeks. That stuff is nasty. She'll be breaking out with skin rashes and all sorts of stuff.

Janet,

Thanks for the update. Tell her that we are all pulling for her and hope she gets to come home today. I was another lucky PICC participant...but I was lucky enough to be on Rocephin, which was only a once a day regimen. I was able to go to the office and function fairly normally with it in, so hopefully she will be able to go back to her students once she has the strength and is feeling up to it physically. Give her my best and tell her to hang in there! :)

Janet, thank you for the update. I'm glad you were able to go see her. I'm sure she knows how many of us are pulling for her.

*raises eyebrow*

*in Arnold Willis tone*

What you talkin' 'bout Janet?

*awaits response*

Course, I have no room to talk, considering I had CT scan on the brain earlier today in an effort to help diagnose the vision problems I've been having. Grrr...best not get me started. Plus, I'm trying desperately to get my spring/summer/fall plans together...but, sometimes, I wonder just what the helk is the point anyway?

*shrugs*

Grrr...I wish I had been there for that visit. LOL!

Niki...keep up that positive attitude, my friend! And come back to us soon!

She is such a great person!! Has anyone heard from her now yesterday or today?? Has been kinda crazy around here so not alot of time to spend on here. Which the way i've been feeling might be good.. although you guys are teh greatest support ever!!

Another quick update

Another quick update

Just talked to Niki - I was worried when I didn't see an update - and she had just gotten home. The insurance, needless to say, didn't come through yesterday for the portable VAC. She's exhausted, so she may not post tonight, but I'm sure she will in the next few days to fill us all in. ANd, no! she is not going back to work tomorrow, but the jury is still out for Thursday. ANyway, the prayers are very much appreciated and please keep them up.

Ross, darn it! I forgot to ask! Mind's frazzled.
Cort, sending hugs. Please fill us in on that scan when you are ready. And I didn't know you were old enough to remember Arnold Willis!!! You know, I keep telling you there are jobs and nursing schools in Texas. Katie will even sing you Jingle Bells. :D
Erica, hugs. You know you stay in our prayers.

WEll, got to scoot. My kids are fully engaged in World War III here.........sigh!
