Well, I have been out of the loop for a few days............wallowing in self-pity, but that is another story...........anyway, I was so upset and shocked when I found out that Niki was back in the hospital that I had to go see her.
Despite all that she has been through, Niki looked and sounded great and is in amazingly good spirit. I'm in awe! I'm sure that she must have her moments of depression, but they don't seem to hold her down for long. Niki is so sick of the hospital and ready to get out of there and go back to work. If her insurance comes through for the portable VAC, she hopes to get out of there tomorrow. She's going to have to administer IV antibiotics through the PICC line for six weeks to ward off endocarditis, but is taking it all in stride. She is such a trooper - now you know why she is our hero!
Katie brought her a couple of cards that she "signed" and a blue wienier dog balloon and sang "Jingle Bells" for her (there is absolutely no point in telling Katie that Christmas is O-ver! and wouldn't it be good if everyone kept the Christmas spirit all year long?) I gave my mother hen lecture about overdoing it at work. And I guess that is about it. Niki had just finished typing up an update when we got there, so hopefully Erica will be forwarding that along soon. Please keep those prayers flowing for our gnusgal that this is absolutely the last setback for a long, long time and that the rest of her "recovery" goes smoothly. Hugs. J.
