My INR has been creeping up and today I was at 6.6 ... I am much more active than years gone past and the heat may be a factor ... I take 5mg a day ... the nurse said to skip two days and start back on Sunday ... I'm good with that ... I was always in range until this summer:mad2: ... oh well, it is what it is....

I'm certainly no expert, but I suspect some of the long-time Warfarin guys/gals may suggest lowering your dose rather than skipping a dose (or doses). Skipping two doses in a row seems pretty drastic to me. I suspect if I'd creeped up to 6.6 (which admittedly would scare me a little if I got that high) my doc would have recommended lowering my dose from 5mg to 3mg or 2mg and re-test me in 3 days, but doubt she'd ever suggest skipping a dose. But again, I could be wrong as I've never been that high.

How long have you been going between tests? And how long have you been creeping up? It is a little bit of a wakeup call for me that someone 4 years down the road could swing that much, especially after always being in range. I would have thought that once you get things figured out, it would be pretty steady. Makes me nervous to think about ever going more than a week (maybe 2 at most) w/o testing because I imagine if you can go up that much after 4 yrs of being consistent, you could also go down (which would be even more scary for me).

I'm thinking that if you Hold for 2 Days that your INR will Drop Like a Rock, and possibly drop below 2.0 which could be dangerous.

I'd be more inclined to Hold for ONE day or take 1/2 Dose for 2 Days and then re-test in 3 or 4 days after the last change from your normal dose. Even If that does not bring you to your desired range, it will Move in the Right Direction and hopefully NOT make your INR Crash below 2.0

IF it has been creeping up, and this isn't a one time "jump", if you skip 2 days (or even 1) and then go back to your normal 5 a day /35 a week, even tho it will bring you down right now, won't it just go high again next week if you stay at your 5 a day?

I would agree with the advice to hold one dose and then hold two 1/2 doses and check in a week. I am also running a little high but my activity level has decreased due to the hot weather....go figure.
