What's his dose now? 5.2 is better than 1.5! But I know the frustration involved.

He takes 5.5 now, last night i told him 5.0. This is making me crazy. lol

Dropping it down to 5 sounds like a reasonable change. That's about a 10% drop. If he's still too high in a week, then dropping it to 4.5 will be another 10% drop.

Unfortunately you are experiencing what tends to happen when the INR goes as low as his did and stayed at for a while. But your thoughts as far as doseage change were right on target. Good work Mom!

Machine said the samething huh? I don't trust lab draws myself.

not identical but damned close 5.1, 5.2

Matt has always had problems with his INR. They stabilize for a few months but go back to the up and downs....

Something isn't right with this picture though. There has to be a missing piece to this puzzle.

If your son is like my age 14 year old Grandson..hates veggies..:p but I'm thinking..if he would drink a few V8Juices?..They are loaded with Vit. K...Coleslaw on his hot dog would be good, too..but, I know what my Grandson would say..That's nasty.:p He will eat raw brocolli and cucumbers dipped in Ranch dressing.:D .....In other words..anything with Vit K will lower his INR......even Mayo..Bonnie

Bonny, the only diet change was a week in England. But he still ate pretty much his uaual fares. He eats veggies. He has pretty much maintained his eating habits, even in college.

He missed one dose in England, we increased.

Aha?

Aha?

Did you increase his weekly dose altogether, or just for a couple of days to compensate for the missed dose?

And, how long ago was the increase? 5 days ago? 10 days ago? If it was less than a week ago, it's very possible to have the higher reading. Personally, I do not test at all if I've missed a dose & then taken either a double dose or in my case spread the dose out over 3 days or so. My coag clinic sometimes argues with me, but in the end she agrees. If he's missed a dose, and you do a temporary increase to compensate, I wouldn't test for at least a week...maybe even 10 days. Of course, that's knowing that the low INR was definitely caused by a missed dose.

I hope this makes sense.

Kristi this one is a trip. He was way below on a smaller dose, increased by 10 percent and now is way over. There seems to be no happy medium.

no there isn't.... :-(

I went to see him last night, you know the Mommy thing... lol He needed juice and more.

Anyway, he looked terrible! Pale, tired. I noticed he was sorta limping and asked why? he said, I think I have gout like Dad. Only my kid. His left leg has been hurting for a couple of weeks.

Guess it's time to call the PC and get that May date for his cath....

jeanne i'm sorry that matt isn't feeling well. it won't surprise you much to know his 'twin" stayed home yesterday and slept most of the day because he looked like Matt. except for the limping. I'll say some feel better and get the INR stable prayers, have a great week end, lyn

I was suggesting the V8 juice, coleslaw, ect. to bring his INR down..without a doseage change.Lots of members do a nice spinich salad ect. Also, did you know that drinking Cherry juice helps with the gout? Hope he feels better soon. Son told me today that Grandson was showing off on a trampline 2 days ago..( In front of girls) and fell and hurt himself. But, was O.K..I would dread knowing he was on coumadin. He is the typical teenage boy..skateboarding, ect.and a showoff.:p Bonnie
