Tomorrow marks the two week mark since my husband's aortic valve replacement at CC. He is doing fantastic. We met with our family doctor yesterday morning and he was vary impressed by Larry's progress. We went out for supper last night After we came home my husband got a side ache. We didn't think much of it....just thought he ate too much or somthing. He still has it today. It hasn't gotten worse but just there. I told him he should call the doctor tomorrow if it isn't gone. It's amazing how little things can become worrisome after surgery.

Glad to hear that your husband is doing well - just 2 weeks and already going out to dinner!? That's remarkable!! Hopefully the ache in his side is just a muscle or an ache that's the result of various positions he was placed in during surgery. Either way, just to be on the safe side, it's always best to check with the dr. - for your peace of mind. Best wishes for continued smooth recovery!!

Glad things are going so well!! It is always better to call the Doc when in doubt. I am sure it is just from being yanked and stretched and pulled and poked and rolled.......the body takes a beating during OHS. I was sore and had mystery pains for some time after my surgery.

Hope all continues well.

Great news that everything is going well, hope the ache is just a minnor hic up and nothing to worry about, hope he continues with a great recovery.

Glad to hear things are going so well. I had lots of aches and pains during the first weeks/months. Over doing it would make them more pronounced. Over doing it the first few weeks is pretty easy to do when you are feeling pretty good, so he should still be careful and still take it easy in these early days even if he is feeling really good.

I hope his recovery continues to go well.

As others have said, it is very easy to overdo the first few weeks and months after surgery. Calling the doctor is probably the right thing to do, but the odds are the pain he is experiencing is not a symptom of anything happening with his heart.
However, if he starts having severe pain when he takes a deep breath, then he might be retaining too much fluid, but your doctor could best advise you in that event.:)

I had some lower right side pain early on and it was a bit of fluid in my lung which went away on its own.
The thing with restaurants is that you never really know what they have added to the foods, usually they are loaded with salt. What would concern me more post op, would be the risk of exposure to germs and viruses in public places, if your hubby catches a cold he will not be able to sneeze without severe pain.
Best wishes to Larry for a great recovery.:)

Larry called our doctor this morning. He said as long as the pain doesn't get worse and there isn't any fever it shouldn't be anything to worry about. I'm wondering if it just isn't gas pains. It has improved since yesterday. He slept good last night and is feeling good today.

Thanks!

It's so nice to read how well he's doing, Shelly! I hope this pain turns out to be nothing serious. Take care and post again.

Shelly - I love reading about how well people are doing so soon after surgery! I'm 4 days away, and it just does the heart good to hear about others. Thank you. I was glad to read that his side pain probably is nothing much. I imagine it is hard to stay put when you are feeling well.
Congrats to you both.
