I haven't made any posts yet, but I have read nearly all the posts. This site has been a great help to me. I have my surgury FRIDAY, 10/22/04 IN Dallas at Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. William Ryan will perform the Ross unless my pulmonic valve is too calcified. I have arotic stenosis and regurgitation. I just need everyone to keep my wife and I in their thoughts and maybe say a prayer.
I am very postive about the operation and am looking forward to restarting my life with a better heart. My wife is having good days and bad days. She has also benefited from the posts.

God Bless,
Bobby

Welcome to the no-longer-lurking side of VR.com! I'm glad you have gotten value from the many who share their experiences and knowledge here. You're just in time for your "initiation" on Friday.

You probably have already done this, but be sure to let your surgeon know your second-choice valve, if the Ross is not workable.

Absolutely, you will feel better after that valve is no longer abusing your heart. I feel fifteen or twenty years better than I did just seven months ago. My heart felt incredibly light, even days after the surgery. It's almost like taking a very sharp stone out of your shoe.

The best you can do for your wife is to keep her mind from it as best you can. The thing that will help her will be seeing you in the recovery room, and knowing you made it back to her. I hope you have taken some special time together, as that can help.

Your surgery will be on my mind Friday, and I will be thinking of you then, as I work. You should know that the wishes and prayers of many will be with you when you are wheeled into that operating room.

Best wishes,

Sheesh Bobby why did you wait so long to speak out? Good luck on the surgery. I've never heard of a pulmonary valve stopping anything yet, so you should do well. ;)

Welcome aboard...

Welcome aboard...

Bobby -- welcome to the forum and best wishes for an uneventful surgery and recovery.

Where in the world is Powderly, TX? I'm in New Braunfels.. Prayers going up IH35 for you this week!

Welcome!!

Welcome!!

Bobby

Welcome to vr.com. My husband has his surgery on Monday and it went very well. I am sure that yours will go well also. You now have the VR.com family pulling for you!! You couldn't ask for a better support group! I know I benefited so much from this forum. Please let your wife know that if she needs to talk, ask questions or just vent, she can email me directly. I was/am a worrier. I drove my husband crazy before his surgery and I will probably continue to do so now that is over. Every cough or sneeze will lead to the "Are you ok?" question that he is getting tired of hearing. But he also said he wouldn't have me any other way! You and you family will be in our prayers on Friday as you reach the top of the mountain and start down the recovery side!!

We will be pulling and praying for you!!

Welcome Bobby!

I hope everything goes well for you on Friday. I had a Ross Procedure too and my first question when I woke up was "did I get my Ross?". My wish to you is that you get the same answer I got...the pulmonary valve was in perfect condition and it was a perfect fit! :)

Please let us know how you're doing after your surgery, as we worry until we hear something from you or your family.

Bobby,

We will all be with you and your wife. Our hearts and prayers go out to you now and through your recovery (and beyond).

This is a great group and as much support as you could want.

Look forward to an update after surgery.

Best of luck and God bless,
Gina

I know Powderly, Texas, all too well.......

I know Powderly, Texas, all too well.......

Home of the illustrious (NOT!) Camp Maxie! :D I've spent way too many very long weekends there during my National Guard days. That part of the state is really nice, though, if you aren't stuck on an M-16 range all day and night, coated in mud, or riding down a tank trail, eating dust. You wouldn't, by any chance, know Curtis Freeman or Dave Hughes???

Anyway, enough small talk. I know you are anxious, but you have many folks here cheering you on and praying for you, too. It will be over with before you know it, and you will be back on here bragging soon. It's too bad you will be in the CICU Saturday as we have a small local gathering of heart folks that day.............guess we could come invade your ICU room and claim that we are family - vr, that is.

You will be in our thoughts and prayers. Please get someone to update us if you can. Hugs.

Hi Bobby!

Hi Bobby!

I will definintely be thinking of you and your wife tomorrow. Like Bryan I am a recent Ross patient as well, and the first thing they told me was that it went well and the pulmonary valve was a perfect fit. I hope that yours is too!

Best wishes and I hope you stick around the forums once you get out of the hospital. And let your wife know that any questions she has during and after your hospital stay are welcome here anytime.

Stephanie

Some vr.comers will be checking on Countryboy this weekend.

Several of us from the Dallas-Fort Worth area (and Elgin IL -- the traveling Cort, Knightfan2691) will get together Saturday night for an impromptu dinner about 6:30 p.m. near LBJ (I-635) and North Central Expressway (US 75). This is not far from Presbyterian Hospital, so some of us plan to drop by the hospital Saturday afternoon to check on Countryboy and visit with his wife.

Anyone in the DFW area wanting to join us can PM me today (Friday) for further details.

Bobby - Welcome! Today is Friday and I am PRAYING for you this morning, as you are probably stating your climb to the other side of the mountain!
I am 2 1/2 weeks post op nd feeling rather well all things considered! You are going to do great!!!!! Please have someone post when possible to let us all know at VR.com how you are doing. As you will see, this is FAMILY around here.... and in case you can't hear us....WE ARE ALL CHEERING YOU ON! Hi Bobby

I'm thinking of you and your family and putting you all in my prayers for a great surgery(although I may be a bit late) and an even better recovery. I'm sure everything will be fine.

As I write this my husband, Tyce, AVR 6/02 is outside on the tractor picking up leaves......a sign that all does return to better than before. I know you will be in that boat too, someday.....

Please have someone post and let us know how you're doing.

Evelyn

Missed it!

Missed it!

Hi Bobby, it's too late for me to wish you all the best for the surgery, but I do hope everything went well yesterday and that you have a very speedy recovery. I'll be checking this thread over the weekend to see if your wife has posted an update. Hang in there!
