So here we are, not a week on Coumidin..and I go into a Deli with Garin because he wants something to drink. Tons of cases filled with...Vitamin waters.....Green teas....Drinks with Ginsing and Ginko..and I have to read all these darn bottles before I find something that is crappy enough for the boy to drink!!!
So my question...does anyone dare to drink these things?? I am guessing that Arizona and Sobe don't really put enough stuff in there to make a medical difference, but I'm not betting enough to let my yet recovered child drink it. IS it all to be just avoidable and I am to stear him to plain old soda?

I read up on the cases where people took pills of the stuff and got reactions, but this is just "trendy teas"....anyone wi expereince???

Thanks!

Green tea can be an issue if a lot of it is consumed occasionally. Any of these drinks can be consumed if they are done on a regular basis. If consumed regularly, the INR will be adjusted around them.

Once he starts drinking any such product (or eating items, etc.), please test his INR weekly for awhile so any adjustments can be made.

IMHO, it is much better to consume sports drinks and adjust INR if needed than to start a soda habit.

I do not watch ANYTHING I consume. I eat and drink whatever I want. I test weekly so I can make changes if needed. However, I have been relatively consistent for 25 years.

An occassional drink or even one bottle daily will probably not contain enough of these ingredients to make much difference. One interesting thing about the law governing these supplements is that they do not even need to have any ginseng, etc in them. It is the wild, wild west where any kind of "snake oil" can be sold.

Hi FauxClaud,
Steer clear of gingko, ginseng and herbal drinks. In the coumadin print out that I got after my avr I read that green tea is okay. You just don't consume the tea leaves as that is where the Vit K is. The vit K doesn't transfer into the water at least that is what the coumadin manufacturers say.
