Well here I'am again, with another stupid question. My cardio. said it would really help if I lost some weight while I was off work. I started the Suzanne Somers Diet way of eating, and I would like to know if any one has had any problems with it.

And this is for Nancy, do you think it would cause low blood sugar and cause light headed feeling and dizzy? Syl

Hi Syl-

I'm not sure what the Suzanne Somers diet is, but if it's one of those low carb, hi protein diets like the Atkins diet, it can make you feel lightheaded and dizzy. They change the whole chemistry of the body, some of them cause ketosis. Low carb diets can also make you urinate excessively. Low carb diets always worked for me in the short term, but when I went back to normal eating, the weight always came back.

Run the diet by your doctor and make sure that it's OK for you to be on it with the heavy load it might place on your kidneys, plus the low blood sugar.

Lots of people have good luck with Weight Watchers too.

Good luck!

Diets and Surgery

Diets and Surgery

:( Hi Nancy, thanks for answering my question. It is a low carb. diet much like Atkins but alot more freedom of foods and quanity. I thought much like you that it was causing my dizzy and light headed feeling. But the atenonol which dr has reduced to half the dosage, I think is still giving side effects. I told the Cardio about this SS diet and he thought it was a good one. He really didn't have any retrictions for it. As long as I eat my sugar in the morning it seems to help. Thanks again, will keep you up on everything. Syl:eek:

You mentioned diets. Had you thought of weight watchers? You can eat everything on this diet all you have to do is count the points. In seven weeks I have lost 21 pounds. Of course everyone is different, and it depends on how much weight you need to loose. Good luck... martha

hi syl!
i agree with martha_ weight watchers is a diet that will take you through life, IF YOU WORK IT.as with any diet, if you don't follow it, it won't work.
what is it they say? "you can eat anything, just not everything!". i am a lifetime member (although i only had very little weight to lose)
the point system is easy to follow and you can even
join and do it online (you can also go to meetings)!
the whole premise of the diet is portion control and moderation. they also make great weight watcher's ice pops that are low in points and have some wonderful recipes.
good luck,
sylvia

DIets

DIets

Hi All-

Stay away from LA WeightLoss. I tired this and lost nothing in the 2 months I was on it. Plus, it was VERY expensive. Diets that put me in ketosis are the only ones that I can lose weight on. Atkins, Sugar Busters, etc.

Syl-
You might try Sugar Busters. It is a good diet and not too low in carbs that you feel light headed. A lot of diabetics are on it, so it's very heart healthy. It incorporates the best of Atkins and the best of the Dean Ornish diet.
You get to eat more carbs, whole grain carbs and stuff. It is more or less a "whole foods" way of eating.
I don't crave things like ice cream and cookies, but regular red Coke and white bread! So, a diet that gives me carbs int eh form of bread is good.

What we really need is a magic pill right.

Dieting after surgery?

Dieting after surgery?

:D Hi Mara, Thanks for the tips on this post. I started with Suzanne Somers and really works. But like I told Nancy it does tend to make me light headed and some dizzy spells. But of course I don't know if it's the diet or the beta-blocker. The Cardio appt I have is Tues. I will find out when I can go off the Beta-blocker. I've lost 9 lbs. in 3 weeks . That's good for me. Since I ve tried just about every diet out there. I'll pick up the Sugar Busters book today and compare the two. Thanks again, I'll keep you informed. Syl

Syl-
When I was on the beta blocker it made me light headed, I also had some funky brain-fart episodes. that was when the cardio figured that the beta blocker had breached the blood-Brain barrier eek!
Dang 9 lbs in 3 weeks is great. you know they say an aggressive diet is one where you lose 2 lbs a week! Go! Maybe I'll check out the Suzanne Summers book!
