Exactly one year ago I did my first sprint triathlon on a whim with two weeks of preparation - I plodded to the finish in 2:02. This past Sunday I did the same race, and after a year of training was able to finish in 1:30.07!
My goal had been to break two hours, so naturally I was ecstatic with how I finished. I improved each of the legs significantly: My swim was at a nice steady pace (last year I went out way too fast and struggled to finish). My bike leg improved significantly, not only due to logging a lot of miles in training, but also due to using bike shoes/clipless pedals and the new Cannondale R700 that replaced my trusty 30-year-old Schwinn Continental 10-speed. The run was still my weak leg, but was accomplished at a steady pace without any walking this year. In fact, I felt so good afterwards that I know I left a lot out on the course - still a lot of room for improvement!
One of the unexpected benefits of my improved finishing position was that I ended up finishing with the leading 30-40 yr old women - lots of good looking Lycra outfits to inspire me!

Congratulations Mark

Congratulations Mark

WOW Mark! You knocked off over half an hour! That has got to be very gratifying!

That is a nice bike you got yourself- you need to start doing some longer races so you can enjoy the seat time more ;)

Keep up the good work, and keep us apprised of your races.

Congratulations on your personal victory, Mark. Your exploits really do inspire others behind you, and gives them the knowledge that these goals are not out of reach.

Again, congratulations!

Congratulations, Mark. Talked to son and he said the weather there was great on Sunday. You definitely made a great improvement - I remember last year's and your couple of struggles then.

Way to go Mark!

That is a huge improvement and you must be very proud to have accomplished so much this year. Keep up the good work1
