My husband & I were thinking of getting a treadmill. I think some of you have treadmills at home. We really don't know what kind we need or what we should be looking for. I was wondering if anyone had any advice, or recommendations on a specific type or brand/model that they could share with us? All inpuy gratefully accepted!!!!

There was a thread some time back about treadmills, and many people voiced their experiences with different kinds. I can't make the search function work to find that thread. Perhaps someone else can.

I had a cheap one many years ago, it was too small, badly designed, and I actually wore out the belt.

Before my surgery, in an effort to shape up a little bit beforehand, we bought a *really* nice one - Nordic Track Apex 6100. It's fantastic, you can jog on it, and it's got a huge running track - the biggest I've ever seen.

That said, think carefully about how much you'll really use it. We're unhappy with the darn thing - It's HUGE, it overwhelms the room that it's in and we don't use it nearly enough to justify the co$t. I actually use the health club several times a week, and don't even need the treadmill- but as treadmills go, the Nordic Track ones are great, but spendy.

Marge,
My recommendations..don't go cheap in quality. Make sure the table will lift up and fold up, it saves space when not in use. Make sure that there are also controls on the hand rails..tHAT IS A MUST. Make sure it has a good quality belt and system. Make sure it has a pause button and a kill switch and strap..look at lots before you buy one..there are lots of different options out there. Mine was made in the States, I can't remember the name. I'll get back to you on that. I really like it.

You don't live that far from me--I suggest you go to "Play it Again" they sell "used" sports equipment that has been refurbished and the prices are real good. We bought our treadmill at Costco some time ago, and I'm not sure if that model is even being made any more, but I use it quite often. Since your hubby just had knee surgery like me, he may find it easier to walk on a treadmill than on hard cement surfaces. I did get a stationary bike from Play it again--the ancient one I had was unusable for me after my TKR--my OS and PT both told me that the bike was the best excercise right after a TKR.

There is a Play it Again in Dublin right next to the Stonridge mall, I think there are others but I haven't looked into where they are.
