Hi I was just wondering if anyone has been assessed for a transplant and what it involves.

I was at my specialists yesterday and he was saying about booking me in to have this done.

Thanks

Leah

Leah, Jennifer B, in Europe, has had a heart transplant. She's not been on in awhile, but it's been about 2 years since the transplant, I think. A couple others have been put on the list here in the U.S. - Is it Nicole (ILoveNY)? Somebody can come up with it. Nancy, maybe - she always knows the answers we search for and can't find. But someone will give you some info on this.

I am sorry to hear you have reached this point. Maybe it won't happen - things will get better? You have my prayers for improvement.

God bless

Hi Leah-

Hensylee was close, but no cigar--it's Jessica B. You can look her up in the members list and either private Message her or email her.

Here's a link to the thread when Zazzy let us know that she got her new heart.

When Joe spent a month in the hospital for his Pulmonary Hypertension, he was admitted into the Transplant Unit because he was so terribly sick. He had the most involved workup I have ever heard about. It involved every body system, and had hot and cold running doctors swarming all over him. He had voluminous testing, both labwork and invasive testing, each and every day. Every single thing was investigated. If he burped, it was recorded somewhere. It was really something. So if they did that for PH, I can't even imagine what would be involved with transplanting. But I think Joe's workup was pretty close to what would have been done. He had too many contraindications to qualify for a transplant.

Here's a link which give lots in information with a "clickable" list for additional info including what tests are necessary, etc.

Nancy, of course you are right. It's Jessica and I know this because I have chatted with her. What a lovely lady. DUH And I have it written down right here just so I wouldn't get it wrong. There's a Jennifer O and I didn't want to put her name down. DUH, again.

Evaluation

Evaluation

I had this done a couple of years ago because of my chronic
A-fib and AV and MV problems. Since I had some recent tests
run due to a valvaplasty- the evaluation was no more than a series of written questions and an interview. The team advised
me that I was a good canidate because my blood type (AB neg.)
was a universal recipient, but that because I had suffered a stroke, I would not be eligible for the waiting list.

Hensylee-

I hope you know I was just teasing a little, I had to look it up. Jessica hasn't posted here in a while. I hope all is well with her.

Last I heard Jess was plugging right along and enjoying life. She was to go to work about a year ago, but she had a set back and her doctors wouldn't let her. Zazzy keeps in touch with her all the time.

Nancy, I know you were teasing. I was trying to be so careful and had written it down so as to not get it mixed up and did anyway.
