Hey Hensylee,
Thanks for the information. I just had an appointment with Clincial Dietitian after my rehab today and she gave me the same thing. I wonder when they are going to tell us water is bad to drink. lol

Now me, I'm going to be stubborn and I'll eat what I like. Alot of the foods they say will hurt us, were eaten by our ancestors and they didn't die from eating it, so it's good enough for me.

The article referred to above was written a full year ago...........wonder why we are just now hearing all about it????????

I am just about with you, Ross, tho I have gotten in the habit of leaving off certain things and I don't even like them anymore!

This past week Newsweek reported that rather than eating Oreo cookies, three strips of bacon was better. They probably meant that we shouldn't eat either one, but that's not the way I read it.

Bacon and eggs
bacon sandwiches
bacon, lettuce and tomato
bacon and pancakes
just bacon
hamburgers with bacon
chicken with bacon
hamburgers wrapped in bacon

Back in the dark ages when I was in college, the cafeteria routinely served eggs one morning and bacon the next; just bacon; I think I developed an appetite for it...

It wouldn't hurt my feelings one bit if we were told bacon was the source of all evil. YUCK!!!!

I remember at one time "they" were saying cooked beef caused cancer. Well, I guess I'm in for it because I sure won't eat it raw. Blegh!!!!

On transfatty acids

On transfatty acids

They have said that most foods some form of transfatty acids. Like there is supposed to be truth in advertising, truth in labling food is going also. It would be nice for the packaging should supply with all ingrediants in the product. I have Type 2 diabetes, as several have it also here, besides heart conditions. Dieting without full information is like pulling a needle in the haystick without a map. Thanks for the information. I also heard this in the newpaper and newswires, that there is a recommendation of using chlorestrol meds, even for those who do not need it, to keep chlorestrol, even when there is no problem. This is for everyone who has to watch everything they eat anyway. I will be asking my PCP dorctor on Monday on this shocking news. I am not ready to add more medications, not needed, in my regiment. I will let you all know what I find out. In the meantime, I went to an amusement park today to celebrate being alone and almost thrity years since my first bypass, a repair on the aortic valve. I had fun, except for one ride. It was a roller coaster and it was a bit rough. I thought since it was a short ride, no problems. My heart was beating a mile a minute and when it was over, my legs were rubber for a time. I am feeling better.

I hope everyone had a good weekend. I had a good time anyway at the park. I plan to go back, but not for that one ride. Once was enough. Take care and I will be in Monday.

'celebrate being alone' - I am not asking. Congratulations are in order I believe, especially since you are celebrating it. So balloons and roses sent your way.

I'm with you Ross...more and more, I am returning to a "natural" diet...no oleo, no artificial anything. I eat my eggs and my red meat...in moderation. I try to look at labels and as I said, avoid all the chemicals I can't pronounce. I guess since chemo 11 years ago, I just wanted to try to get as chemical free as possible. Our farm is organic since 88 and you would not believe the change in the soil in the fields...from sterile (read that not a bug or worn in the soil) we now have worms, little and big bugs and ground hogs and millions of little voles and mice...the pheasants are living here and turkeys are moving in and sandhill cranes visit and of course deer abound...someday I may have more deer than sheep! Probably not a panacea, but we both feel healthier and don't get colds hardly ever anymore.

Jean you must be in a beautiful part of Michigan. We're losing all our nice lands to industry around here. We've even started a "Conserve the Farmland" campaign in our township. It really makes me sick to see what once was and what now is.

We used to have all sorts of wildlife not unlike that of which you speak. Not any more. :(

Unfortunately, FDA has allowed three years for the new labeling requirements so we'll have to wait unless some manufacturers opt to display the data earlier. Those with cholersterol problems or a tendancy to clog up arteries should try to avoid this stuff. Its tough sometimes. When I lose ten more pounds and get my lipids where they should be, I think I'll celebrate with bisquits, gravy, eggs, bacon, and hot doughnuts !
