I took my last dose of Coumadin (I hope) last night, 30 days after my surgery. However, based on my short experience and reading other postings here I do not fear it if I have to go back on.
I read the postings and continued to eat like I normally do. They adjusted the dosage as needed. My second week I picked my nose (nasty habit I know) and had my first (in recent memory) nose bleed. I quickly thought "trip to the ER" but it stopped bleeding after a few minutes. I was worried about a place on my knee where they had a drain tube for my by-pass harvest. It kept wanting to leak. I was fearful of the sudden gush of blood because of the Coumadin but it finally sealed up. Last week I felt like I had to blow my nose, did, and started another bleed (bad idea). I was able to stop that one after a little work too. I was fearful of the prick to take my blood for the test but didn't have a bad experience until the last time she took blood. I don't know if she got a little deeper or what but we had to apply pressure for several minutes to stop it.
As always, VR.com has been a help in my travel. I hate to think what I would have gone through if I hadn't found y'all. May God bless each and every one.
