Well
I am at it a gain. They gave me two new drugs for Cardiomyphy. Now my INR & PT are 1.4 18.2. ANd the primary care has no clue wwhat to do. I have thoses lovenox shots but he tells me to take 12.5 today and 7.5 on friday aand retest. But we all know it takes three days for it to do anything. What to do???????? I also having trouble with fluid retention gained 10 pds in one day. I am convinced all my Dr.'s are full of ******. I ssure I know more than they do when it goes to PT.

Hi Sherrin,
Sorry to hear that you are having problems again. I hope your Dr. gets things worked out for you. Maybe it is time for a second opinion.
I want you to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Take Care

Sherrin what do you normally take over the week? how much on what days?

You need to get someone who knows what they are doing with this dosing before they kill you.

If you took 12.5 today and 7.5 on Friday, that would be the same as taking roughly 6.5mg per day, which is what they should be doing. Daily Dosing, not every other day.

Sherrin,

Maybe I'm wrong but the fact your INR dropped may indicate you heart is actually working better and getting your blood through the areas where you warfarin are metabolized more efficiently. I sure hope this is the case.

I would probably cover myself with the lovenox since that won't affect the INR anyway and may give you some needed protection. Maybe you could develop a plan as if you were home testing and then ask if he would allow you to try it. Good luck, Sherrin. You are staying on my prayer list these days.

Well, today I called my primary Dr. who is supposed to be taaking care of my INR. I didn't like his advise so I called my cardiologist and they didn't want to change anything because they were afraid they would make him made. Then I called this support co. through my insurance co. and they were less help.I do test my own PT.
Ross,
Before today I was taking 7.5 on MWF & 5 on TTSS. I wished I lived near you. This is getting to be pain in the ****. Thanks for you all support.

Sherrin,
Al has a chart that he sells on his web site, it is a Warfarin Dose Adjustment chart. I ordered one from him. When I got my CoaguChek unit last month from QAS, I had to go to my Cardiologist office for training on it. I took this chart with me and the RN at the Coumadin Clinic said it looked very good and that I could use it. I live 1 1/2 hrs. from the clinic. I think this might be something that can help you out also.
Take Care

Sherrin when did you stop taking your doses like this? That's 42.5 mg a week which should have you in the ball park. I think your going through what I did when my CHF started, your all diluted down with water. What I would do in your case is go to 7.5 on TTSS and 5 on MWF or reverse the order of what it was. That will give you 45mg per week.

Don't listen to me since I'm not a doctor, but you do need someone who knows what the heck is going on because the way they are treating you.......well it's a disgrace. I think you need to get some fluid off. Have they said anything about that?

Thanks for your input. They have told me to lake 4 extra lasix tonight and to weigh tomorrow. WIth this heart stuff going on it really bother me. You would think with a city the size I live I could find ssomeone who knew whaat the he*** they are doing. This lasix is going to mess up my pottassium too!

Sherrin
Don't you take Potassium with every Lasix tablet? I would be very hesitant (ahem) to take FOUR Lasix tablets without some Potassium. In fact, I flat wouldn't do it.

I don't know if it's the same for everyone, but I take a KDur pill with every 40mg Lasix. Not true for you?

mindy

Sherrin, Like Mindy, I'm real careful about my potassium. I take it every single day. Extra Lasix can mess me up mighty fast. Just be careful, alright?

Hi
The cardiologist called early this morning about my weight gain . with taking the 4 lasix I lost 1 pd. I did take extra pottauim. I know better but the Dr. didn't say a thing about it though. Thanks for your help. you all the greatest support system.

Mindy is right, I passed out from becoming hypokalemic, hit the left side of my face on these rail road ties we have, and the back of my head smashed into a rock, puncturing soen to the skull. I had one staple and a lot of bruising. If you feel weak in the knees and get a warming sensation all over your body, stop what you are doing and SIT. If you are driving, hazards on, and stop then and there, and put it in park. I would actually ask to have THAT tested. Mine was so low that I was anemic to boot...and my INR was at 1.1. We heart patients are very complex people!

Too little potassium causes your heart to beat irregularly, therefore inefficiently.

Too much potassium causes your heart to relax and stop beating altogether.

It is nearly impossible to get too much potassium when your kidneys are working normally. When you are extremely swollen, your kidneys may not be fully functioning.

Sherrin,
I hope you feel better soon. Sounds like the others have given you some good advise. Thinking of you,
Kathy H

PT & CHF

PT & CHF

Well,
I got to make my weekly visit to the ER. This time my INR .7 and I was in CHf too! My life is never dull. I was in the ER in Louisville, Hosp. for 7 hrs. for lasix and 100 mg. of lovenox shots and 10 mg. wafarin. I had all this at home just didn't know the amount to use. I hate hosp. I made my app. for the cleveland Clinic at the end of June. I thought if my next app. the new meds. are not working , I would already have my app. for a second opinion.I am just about to go crazy. I took a nap yesterday that lasted 18 hrs. Why would I sleep like that ? Most of the time I am lucky is if I sleep 6 hrs. My husband was worried because he couldn't get me a awake. I woke up long enough to move from one bed room to another. I'm not a sleep walker either.
Another chapter in the life of wierd Sherrin world. I would get the ER DR. I hate the most. I think he got his degree over the internet no real education needed. Even the guy beside thought he was a a** too! I have conplained about him before to the hosp. in writing for all the good it did.

Your obviously going to have to dose yourself, but as long as your having the CHF, I don't want to speculate what you should be taking. You 've got to get someone NOW that knows what they are doing. These guys obviously don't!

Thanks Ross,
But do you do when your primary Dr. & Or your cardiologist and hemotogist have no clue what to do. I guess I'll have to move close to you.
