Today my monitor reads 4.7. Not sure what the lab will read....probably a 4.5 - I'll find out within 3 hours.
Been taking 6mg for the week = 42mg

So I'm thinking of taking a half a dose today, which would be 3mg, tomorrow (Saturday) 5mg, Sunday 5mg, Monday 6mg, Tuesday 5mg and re-test on Wednesday, which is Dec 23.

Am I on the right track with the above dosage?

P.S.
I went for the H1N1 shot on Tuesday would that have made a difference?
Last week I was 2.6

Thursday Dec 3: lab was 1.3 monitor 1.5;
- 7mg on Thursday, 10mg on Friday, 6mg on Saturday and Sunday, retested Monday Dec. 7 - results 1.7 from the lab and 1.8 from the monitor.

On Monday Dec 7 started 6mg (4 days on 6mg = 24mg) and retested on Friday Dec 11, results: Lab - 2.6, monitor 2.8, continued on 6mg = 36mg

I take my warfarin at supper time, therefore I didn't count Friday Dec. 11 dosage - the day when I tested.

I'm beginning to think put you on 5 mg and leave you the hell alone for one full week, then see where it is. Too many changes too fast. I couldn't begin to even guess what the right amount would be. That flu shot isn't helping matters in 4 days time either. I'd just discount this test altogether and wait for the next test.

I'm not yelling at you, just saying how I see it.

Freddie,

Just two weeks ago, I tested on a Friday & my reading was 4.7. I had to call in my reading to QAS who immediately patched me to my cardio's office because it was outside of my INR parameters which is 2.5-3.5. So of course my drs. nurse said for me to skip a complete dose that night & re-check on Monday. Well, since I've been on coumadin for 34 years & no one happens to know my body better than "numero uno", I just said, okay, thank you.

That night instead, I took 1/2 of my normal dose, 1/2 dose the following night & then resumed with my usual dose on Sunday. And, and I did not recheck my INR on Monday as I was told, I waited until Friday & it was at 2.7! So you see.... if I had skipped that dose completely, my INR would have dropped like a rock & I was right!!!! :)

I had been on strong, strong antibiotics for a bad sinus infection approx 2 weeks prior to the 4.7 reading so I anticipated the change. And too, I had gotten a steroid shot during this time period too so that played a big part in my INR change too.

Don't fret too much or stress yourself out with this Freddie......just don't make major changes to your dose because you're going to be going like a yo-yo!

Good luck!

That was my other thought Ross.
I was on 5mg before I apparently missed my dose and dropped to 1.3

I'm almost kicking myself for not going back on 5mg when my results were 2.6 grrrrrr

Still thinking of taking 3mg for today and then start on the 5's - no?

If it's only the flu shot instigating this rise, no adjustment is needed, time is all that's needed.

The verdict is in

Lab came with 4.6 Yippeee That's only .1 off my meter's reading

Now the sad news......another demerit for my doc.
She wants me to skip today's dose - NO SHALL DO
But will take the 5mg as suggested by all the helpful members here - which is also what the doc said to do and re-test on Wednesday to at least see if I'm around the 3.5 mark.
With Christmas next week and the restrictions/hours the lab has - this has to be done before the 24th.

Thank-you all once again - at least this time I was almost warm on getting the formula right. Maybe next time I'll be dead on with my thoughts - that will be next Wednesday....
Fat chance right? ;)

How's this?

How's this?

My S/O mother is also on warfarin, range 2.0 - 3.0. Taking 17.5mg a week = 2.5 a day, her results were high today too, coming in at 4.2. Her doctor told her to hold for 2 days then begin with 2mg and test next week. duh....neither of them considered Christmas and lab hours.

We don't have the same doc.
No point trying to talk to her...... she "has to listen to her doctor"

So be it!

And this my friends, is exactly why there are still nightmare stories about Warfarin.

I had a very similar reading 2 readings ago...I did my own thing and stayed on my usual dose and all was back to normal next test without any messing around skipping or adjusting doses...yet the doc had said skip a dose and lower your daily amt.

That shot you got most likely was the cause of this weeks hiccup...why the docs dont know this is beyond me.

Freddie!

You sound so much like ME! ha! I am trying not to freak out when mine goes too high, but when it goes too low I do!! I have tried to relax and listen to these folks on here, because in the end they are ALWAYS right.

I BELIEVE my dose is too heavy for me this week. Been on 7mg all week, but caved and took 6 last night and will probably take 6 tonight.

I re-test tomorrow, so I may end up on here AGAIN freaking out! I have lost sleep worrying about it. What makes it really bad is other than getting it right I feel GREAT!

I wish you the best on your re-test on Wed! Maybe we can both relax on the holidays with a good reading!
