I should have posted here originally because I know that you don't have time to read all the posts. I am going to have a wire removed in March. I'm not sure that my insurance will cover the Lovenox - they can't tell me until they get the prescription???? The surgeon mentioned that if it wasn't covered, I could take Plavix and aspirin. He said that the St. Jude valve is made to protect itself against small clots, so for the short period of time I need, this is a second option. What is your opinion?

Thanks.

Lisa:

Your insurance co. should be able to tell if Lovenox is covered or not.
I checked with UHC last September and was told that, yes, Lovenox is covered and what the coverage rate was at that time. This was before the intended procedure; I canceled procedure when I learned that UHC would not cover a colonoscopy.
I'll take that up again with my PCP when I have my physical in early March.

My husbands insurance(B/C B/S.) would not cover Lovenox shots. We paid over $300.00 for 10 pre-filled needles and we only used 5 of them. That was the only way they would let him come home from the hospital on day 8 after
his AVR because his INR was still too low. After 5 shots it was too high.
