I don't think I ever managed to get chiggers. Kids did once, we used some treatment from the doctor that cleared things up. I am more prone to getting mosquito bites, black fly bites and tick bites. The tick bites scare me the most. Lots of deer ticks where I am

Ticks and Coumadin

Is there any concern with getting tick bites and being on Coumadin? I have had several bites over the last couple of days and the bits spots have turned very red. This is not what I was used to seeing.

I am having bite spots that are turning very red and are EXTREMELY ITCHY!! I feel I want to push my finger nails into them. My doctor prescribed a creme since he though neosporin won't be good enough...it is helping with the itching: TRIAMCINOLONE to be used twice a day. In between I am putting NEOSPORINE.

Today I am thinking these could be allergy to shell fish I had on Sunday more than bites (at least in my case) since they are continuing to appear while I am standing or walking!!!

Anytime you get a bite or impact injury that results in abnormal blood flow in tissues you'll see more of an effect when you're on coumadin. It's simply related to a slower clotting response. The effect varies from individual to individual.

A very good point as mine never looked that bad in the past before starting ACT.
:)

Why would you have tick bites? or you camping or in the woods alot? just wondering.

I shoot competitive field archery. I spend alot of time in the woods. Also, I do camp, fish and hike. It is a nice escape from sitting behind a desk all week.

Perhaps a silly question, but if they are red, are you sure you got the heads out?

Ross, not a silly question. I have thought about this issue as well. I am very careful about removing the little blood suckers and while I endeavor to make sure the heads come out, perhaps one was left behind. Still, each bite seems to have a red dot associated therewith.

Eva, think it means you are just "sweeter" than he is.

Midge

Thanks, Midge, I also think they may be smart!! they know whose blood is easier to suck and suck before they get caught:D

(between me and you, I accept your compliment but the truth is my husband is sweeter than I am. I wish I could remain as patient and as kind as he is during 'situations' that are upsetting to me.)

I guess a better question is, have they resolved? Man, I'd hate to see you end up with Rocky Mountain spotted fever.

Ross,

Yes, they seem to have resolved. I too would hate to get Rocky Mtn Spotted fever or lyme disease, neither are particulary fun. I do use several repellants including premetherin, but you still get one or two now and then.

I also seem to get the same reaction with mosquito bites. I guess the anti-coagulation effects of coumadin contributes to this extra bleeding.

As for the ticks, I would have thought that they would leave me alone. I mean I am an attorney, is there no professional courtesy given from one blood sucker to another :)

Chiggers ?

Chiggers ?

July 4th I was in the woods on TR Island. Something got me, itchy large red bumps maybe a dozen on my shoulder. General concensus was that this was
CHIGGERS. Treated with alcohol scrub followed by Prednisone cream. Took over a week to calm down. Did not use old time honored nail polish treatment.

As kids, we used clear nail polish on the chigger bites and it worked! We had a vacation home at Lake Texoma, on the Texas-Oklahoma line, and I did get lots of chigger and mosquito bites.
