This is a heartwarmer, and I'm happy to say it happened in our family!:)
My brother called this morning and suggested I check out this link--

The NBC affliliate in St. Louis recently aired a five minute news piece about our nephew, Zach. Zach is autistic, but you'd never know it from the reaction of the students and teachers at the middle school he attends.

Zach is the boy's basketball team manager, and a few weeks ago when they played a local school in basketball, they extended game time by two minutes so Zach, and a boy from the other school who is recovering after surgery for brain cancer, could play in the game.

If you follow the link, Zach's mom, Kim, speaks of the joy we all feel when we watch Zach interact with his peers.
Besides the text, there's also a video link to the story. Kim, and my nephew Michael are in the footage and there's a brief glimpse of my brother and his wife. When Kim talks about the grandpa that took Zach to his first Rams football game, it's my brother, Pat.:)

I should have waited to put my makeup on after I read it and saw the video.

That's wonderful, Mary. So proud of Zach and even prouder of his parents who obviously have strived to have him included and loved by all.

I also credit the coach and the part he has played in Zach's life. The coach has the winningest (?) nationwide record of any middle school coach, and he has been offered jobs not only at the high school level but also college. Sports Illustrated had a little article about his win-loss record in one of last winter's editions. He continues to turn down all offers, because he loves working with this age children and he loves his community.

Kids follow by example. When the coach reached out to Zach, the school community reacted by doing the same. It was a win-win for everyone, and it has been a blessing for us.:)
